G A Hubbard’s Flying Log Book as Air Gunner and Wireless Operator from 2 October 1941 until 17 June 1946. Initial training at No. 2 Wireless School, RCAF Calgary and No. 5 Bombing and Gunnery School, RCAF Dafoe. Further training at 24 Operational Training Unit. Posted to 44 Squadron as wireless operator for operations. 1943 saw posting to 14 OTU as an Instructor. Posted to Canada for one month before moving to 1659 HCU as a wireless operator. Second operational posting to 408 Squadron in October 1944. Posted to 242 Squadron (Transport Command) in March 1945. Final posting was with 437 Squadron (Transport Command) which ended in June 1946 when the squadron was disbanded. Served at RCAF Calgary, RCAF Dafoe, RAF Dunholme Lodge, RAF Topcliffe, RAF Linton-on-Ouse, RAF Stoney Cross, RAF Blakehill Farm. Aircraft flown were Noorduyn Norseman, DH Moth, Battle, Whitley, Manchester, Lancaster, Wellington, Anson, Oxford, B-24, Halifax, Stirling, C-47. He flew 31 night operations with 44 Squadron, his pilots being Flight Lieutenant Walker (26 operations), Flying Officer Pilgrim (1 operation) and Warrant Officer Sanderson (4 operations). His targets were Genoa, Hamburg, Turin, Mannheim, Nienburg, Duisburg, Gironde River, Essen, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Lorient, Milan, Wilhelmshaven, Nurnberg, St. Nazaire, Stuttgart, Gdynia, Rostock. With 408 Squadron he flew 20 operations (5 day and 15 night). His pilot was F/O Wylie. His targets were Cologne, Oberhausen, Dusseldorf, Bochum, Gelsenkirchen, Julich, Munster, Duisburg, Hagen, Karlsruhe, Soest, Osnabruck, Opladen, Troisdorf, Hanover, Saarbrucken, Grevenbroich. Last entry is a log of a flight in Concorde in 1983.

Navigators, air bombers and air gunners flying log book for Gordon Mercier, air gunner, covering the period from 17 October 1943 to 11 April 1945. Detailing his flying training and operations flown. He was stationed at RAF Stormey Down, RAF Abingdon, RAF Riccall, RAF Snaith, RAF Marston Moor, RAF Breighton and RAF North Creake. Aircraft flown in were Anson, Whitley and Halifax. Targets were Massy Palaiseau, Amiens, Le Grande Rossignol, Mimoyecques, Villers Bocage, St Martin Le Hortier, Foret de Nieppe, Anderbleck, Bois de Cassan, Hazebruck, Caen, Foret de Mormal, Somain, Tractorable, Tirlemont, Kiel, Brest, Boulogne, Calais, Cap Gris nez, Aachen, Wessel, Luxembourg, Koblenz, Frankfurt, Mainz, Antwerp, Giessen, St Hubert, Liege, Arlon, Nadrin, Namur, Haslet, Trischen, Munchen Gladbach, Uden, North Sea and Leipzig. His pilots on operations were Warrant Officer Digby, flight lieutenant Hopkins and Pilot officer Gilchrist.

Description
An account of the resource
Peter Thompson’s Log Book as Wireless Operator from 17 September 1943 until 11 July 1946. His training started at No. 2 Radio School and No. 3 Air Gunnery School. Posted to No. 4 AFU, 11 OTU, 1653 CU, 3 LFS, and 195 Squadron for operations. After the war transferred to Transport Command, 1332 HCU, 246 and 511 Squadrons.
Served at RAF Yatesbury, RAF Castle Kennedy, RAF Madley, RAF Westfreugh, RAF Oakley, RAF Westcott, RAF Chedburgh, RAF Feltwell, RAF Wratting Common, RAF Llandow, RAF Riccall, RAF Dishforth, RAF Holmsley South, RAF Lyneham.
Aircraft flown were Dominie, Proctor, Anson, Wellington, Stirling, Lancaster and York.
Carried out 28 operations with 195 Squadron to Homberg, Gelsenkirchen, Neuss, Oberhausen, Hamm, Merseburg Oil Plant, Cologne, Vohwinkle, Ludwigshafen, Krefeld, Wanne-Eickel, Munchengladbach, Dortmund, Kamen, Nordstern Oil Plant, Berlin-Potsdam, Heligoland, Bremen, Bad Oldesloe. Also flew 2 Operation Manna flights and 1 Cook's Tour.
His pilots on operations were Flying Officer Evans, Flight Lieutenant Moon, Flight Lieutenant Bird and Flight Lieutenant Easterman.

Leonard William Fairbanks' log book covering two tours from 3 January 1941 to 15 April 1945, detailing his training schedule and operations flown. Training was undertaken at Air Gunnery School at RAF Stormy Down, 25 OTU RAF Finningley, 25 OTU RAF Balderton and 20 OTU Lossiemouth. Operations were flown with 408 Squadron, RAF Leeming and 223 Squadron RAF Oulton. Aircraft flown were Dominie, Proctor, Whitley MK1, Wellington, Hampden, Oxford, Halifax, B-24 and Anson. The first tour, with 408 Squadron, comprised 28 night operations to Brest, La Rochelle, Wilhelmshaven, Paris, Heligoland, Rennes, Emden, Essen, Lorient, Bremen, Saarbrücken, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Osnabrück, Flensburg, Frisian Islands, Turin and Berlin. Many of the second tour's 20 nightime operations, with 223 Squadron, provided Window cover for the main force in addition to shore patrols. Target areas were the Ruhr, Dortmund-Ems Canal, Friedrichshafen, Bremen, Mannheim, Münster, Hagen, Würzburg, Kassel, Hamburg and Berlin. His duties were as air gunner, wireless operator and special operator. The pilots on operations were Sergeant Anderson, Flight Sergeant Wood, Sergeant Locker, Sergeant Jennings, Sergeant Ross, Sergeant Bell, Pilot Officer Kaye, Wing Commander Ferris, Squadron Leader Carrington, Flight Officer Thompson, Flight Lieutenant Allnutt, Flight Lieutenant Allnutt, Flight Lieutenant Croft and Flight Lieutenant Levy. Leonard was described as being 'an average air gunner' and as 'above average' with Special Duties (RCM).

He was stationed at RAF Perth, US NAS Gross ile, US NAS Pensacola, RCAF Charlotte Town, RAF Little Rissington, RAF Chipping Warden, RAF Edgehill (aka RAF Shenington), RAF Stradishall, RAF Feltwell, RAF Methwold, RAF Gamston, RAF Lulsgate Bottom, RAF Finningly, RAF Abingdon, RAF Silverston and RAF Swinderby. Pilot's flying log book for Roy Hastie. It covers his RAF service from 9 December 1940 to 31 March 1946 and then his RAF Auxilliary Service flying to 23 May 1952. Detailing his flying training and operations flown firstly with Coastal Command and then with Bomber Command. He was stationed at RAF Perth, RAF Thornaby, RAF Squires Gate, RAF Eastleigh, East Coast USA, Trinidad, RAF Catfoss, Nassau, Bahamas, RAF Oulton, RAF Feltwell, RAF Riccall, RAF Lulsgate Bottom and RAF Dishforth. Aircraft flown in were Tiger Moth, Oxford, Tutor, Hudson, Blenheim, Botha, Beaufighter, B-25, B-24, Proctor, Hurricane, Spitfire, Chipmunk and Anson. With Coastal Command he flew anti-shipping operations with 53 Squadron, including a ditching. He transferred to 223 Squadrton in Bomber Command and flew 39 operations, mostly using Window in a counter-measures and spoof attacks role but including some bombing attacks. Targets include Hamburg, Bochum, Hanover, Ruhr region, Neuss, Duisburg, Essen, Karlsruhe, Ludwigshaven, Ulm, Cologne, Munich, Magdeberg, Stuttgart, Siegen, Dresden, Chemnitz, Dortmund Ems, Wesel, Kiel, and Augsberg.

Aircraft Wellington X. LN.167 struck the ground a fairly flat angle, low speed, broke up partially, and took fire. Wreckage distribution as at sketch (Appendix F) indicating port wing struck ground first followed by impact of Port Engine, Nose of aircraft which broke away. Aircraft finally slewed round and burnt out almost entirely, outer starboard wing and tail unti [sic] being unburnt. Bomb door handle was located and was at SHUT. Front petrol cocks were found in correct position. Engine controls although badly damaged appeared to be consistent with port engine failure. Two practice bombs were found, one intact.
9. We (I) have been unable to obtain the evidence of the following material witnesses:

(a) Aircraft Wellington X LN 167 took off on a Bombing detail at 1015 hours on 30/11/44 (2nd Witness) next heard of over Rufford Range where one bomb was dropped. Engine was heard making abnormal noises at 11.06 hrs. Aircraft was next seen at very low height (about 300') approaching airfield from Easterly direction (Range lies to West) in a dive. Aircraft levelled out made part right hand circuit of airfield disappeared to north of airfield, was next seen below the top level just prior to crashing. Aircraft flew round airfield in a very nose up attitude and was in a similar attitude immediately prior to crash. Crash at field adjoining Crow Park Farm (Map ref. 241860 Sheet 46 1" to mile) was immediately preceded by dropping of port wing.
(b) (i) [underlined] Primary Cause of death. [/underlined] or Pilot Officer Row [sic] and crew (except rear gunner) was multiple injuries and burns, cause of death of Sgt Morris (rear gunner) was multiple injuries only, all the result of accident to Wellington MR.X LN.167 on 30/11/44
(ii) [underlined] Primary cause of accident [/underlined] to Wellington MK.X.LN.167 was loss of control by the pilot while flying at very low altitude on one engine.
(Note:- Loss of control may have been due to a stall in attempting to avoid tree (Marked T at Appendix F) or may have been due to pilot attempting to turn to port at low height against the failed engine in an effort to avoid obstructions).
[underlined] Secondary causes of accident were:- [/underlined]
Engine failure followed by loss of height before an airfield was reached.
Note:- 1. In view of the time elapse between leaving the range (10th witness) and reaching airfield (2nd & 9th witnesses) and the request for D/F assistance using a priority it is apparent but not proven that the pilot became lost. In view of the loss of height during this interval it is also apparent that the pilot's ability to fly on one engine was poor. The loss of height may also have been due to the pilot not concentrating on his flying owing to being lost. The fact that Balance Cock B was found closed indicates that the full drill for manipulation of fuel cocks in event of engine failure had not been carried out.

Note II. The fact that the instructions in force regarding teaching of single engine landings, had not been complied with is not considered to have any bearing on the accident since the pilot was not in a position to make a right and [sic] circuit and landing once he had lost height to approximately 80 ft. The fact that he dived towards the airfield may have been an attempt to crash land thwarted by obstructions (aircraft in dispersals) but this cannot be proven.
The court consider that the weather was a contributory secondary cause in that it prevented the pilot from seeing the airfield from a distance (2nd witness, R/T Log} but that for normal flying the weather was satisfactory.
Note:- The court do not consider that the failure of the watchkeeper in Flying Control to receive and pass on the information relating to use of a priority in the request from Wellington LN. 167 for Q.D.M's to have any bearing in this case on the accident since every assistance was given by Flying Control from the time of sighting of the aircraft at 11.23 hours, the priority first having been received by the D/F Operator at 11.21 hours.
(c) The court recommend that the recent extension to the engine life of Hercules Engines from 300 hours to 360 hours be reviewd [sic] by higher authority.

I, J17559 F/L A.C. Grout am deputy Flight Commander "A" Flight at 82 O.T.U. Ossington. On 30.11.44 I authorised J.41261 P/O J.G. Rowe and crew to carry out a high level Bombing practice over RUFFORD range. I obtained a weather forecast at 0750 hours and later at 0900 hours for the local area including the range area from the duty meteorological forecaster. In my opinion, based on the forecast and my own observations from the ground, the weather was fit for the exercise.

I, 147387 A/F/L. M. Smith am a flying control officer at R.A.F. Station, Ossington.
On 30.11.44 I was duty flying control officer. Wellington MK X. LN.167 took off for RUFFORD Bombing Range at 1015 hours on 30.11.44. Between 11.20 and 11.26 the aircraft (Wellington MKX.LN167) was reported as having been given four Q.D.M's (course to steer to reach base) (see extract of Watchkeepers log at Appendix D). No priority was requested and the request for D/F assistance (Direction finding assistance) was not considered abnormal. At 11.23 hours I observed Wellington MK.X.LN 167 South West of airfield making a right hand circuit at an estimated height of 150-200 ft. and distant from the Watch Office, where I was located, about 1.1/2 miles. Two minutes later the aircraft called up on T.R. 1196 (Radio Telephone) requesting permission to make a right-hand circuit, stating that his port engine was u/s (unserviceable) (see extract R/T Log at Appendix E). Simultaneously I observed a RED verey cartridge fired from the aircraft. I ordered rockets and mortars to be fired in order to assist the pilot in keeping the airfield in sight. The pilot stated (over Radio Telephone) that he was at 100 feet requested continuation of firing of pyrotechnics which was complied with. He further said that he could not see airfield after being given unqualified permission to land on any runway he could reach. Rockets were fired until some time after aircraft disappeared from sight and broke off two way Radio Telephone communication. Position at which I first saw the aircraft is marked as Point A on sketch map at Appendix A. At 1135 Wellington X LN861 was allowed to take off to look for Wellington MK,XLN167 which I suspected had crashed. The pilot of this aircraft F/L A.H. BATTERSBY of 93 Group Screened Pilots School located and passed the position of the crash and fire tenders and ambulances were promptly despatched.

I, S/Ldr M. McINTYRE, Chief Technical Officer at 82 O.T.U., Ossington state:- On 30.11.44, I arrived at the scene of the accident to Wellington X LN.167 approximately fifteen minutes after the accident had happened. I found the aircraft burning, medical personnel were endeavouring to remove the bodies. The aircraft was almost totally destroyed both engines and mountings having been torn away from the aircraft. The port engine was about 30 yards away from the main wreckage, the propellor was feathered. There was no sign of fire on either engine. I removed the scavenge oil filter from the port engine and found particles of metal together with pieces of piston ring in the filter. On further inspection of the engine at R.A.F. Station Ossington the following defects were found:- All the front cylinder connecting rods were fractured – all front sleeve drive cranks were fractured and the sleeves seized – the front big End and bearing had run – the pistons in the front bank of cylinders had disintegrated. It is suggested that the primary cause of the engine failure was due to failure of the front big end bearing with consequential oil starvation of the front bank cylinder assembly. Lack of oil pressure would render the spray jet (housed in cranshaft [sic] front balance weight) inoperative leading to seizure of the sleeves through lack of oil and overheating. On examination of the wreckage balance cock A was found to be closed. I also noted that Balance Cock B was closed and C P and C S (Main wing tank cocks) were open.

On 30.11.44 I was on duty at my dispersal area located adjacent to the S.W. end of runway 32 point B sketch map at Appendix A. At approximately 11.25 hours on 30.11.44 I sighted Wellington MK.X.LN 167 approaching with port engine propellor feathered at about 300 feet from the east. The aircraft was in a dive towards my position levelled out at about 80 feet, crossed the south side of the airfield turning to starboard around the airfield [missing letter]oundary and flew at a very low height towards the north and was lost to sight behind the hangers. The aircraft was flying in an extremely "nose up" attitude estimated at almost 45° to the horizontal, apart from the short period when it was in a diving/attitude

attitude. I saw two red verey cartridges fired, the first on the aircraft's initial approach about a half mile from the airfield, the second while the aircraft was almost above my position.

Almost immediately after I heard unusual spluttering noises from this aircraft. Wellington MK.X.LN.167 then was lost to sight. I am unable to remember the direction of his departure.

On 4.11.44 I was detailed to carry out check dual circuits with P/O Rowe, a pupil pilot in "A" Flight. I gave this pupil flapless landing practice and left hand single engine circuit and landing practice. I did not teach this pilot right-hand circuits being unaware of instructions requiring right hand circuits (in simulating port engine failure) to be carried out. P/O Rowe was an average pilot showed no unusual tendancies [sic]. He was confident and a hard worker. I sent him solo after advising him on the procedure in the event of port engine failure. I frequently make checks of all orders and instructions and make every effort to keep up to date on them.

Mr. John Goodwin (Junior) of Crow Park Farm, Sutton on Trent (Farmer) states:- I was working in the West field east of Crow Park Farm (Marked A on sketch) Appendix F. At about 1120 hours on 30/11/44 I saw a Wellington aircraft with one engine stopped flying in a circuit of Ossington airfield, this aircraft flew out of sight in the airfield direction. A few minutes later it appeared from the north west, to the right of Crow Park Farm and buildings below tree top level. The aircraft was then level laterally but his nose appeared to be up as though he was trying to climb. After crossing the boundary of the field in which he crashed his port wing dropped and the aircraft struck the ground, spun round and burst into flames. I ran over and assisted in rescuing the rear gunner.

I, F/L T.L. Carr Medical Officer states:- On 30.11.44 I was duty medical officer at R.A.F. Station Ossington. At about 11.30 I was warned that a crash was likely to occur and on further information a few minutes later proceeded to scene of the accident to Wellington MK.X.LN 167. On arrival at the scene of the accident R.278665 Sgt. Morris (rear gunner) had been removed from the rear turret to a point about 15 yards away from the crash by civilians. The remaining crew members were lying among the wreckage of the aircraft, having already died as a result of the multiple injuries and burns, the direct result of the aircraft crash. R.278665 Sgt. Morris died about half an hour later despite first aid treatment on the spot and subsequent treatment in Station Sick Quarters I hereby certify that J41261 P/O Rowe, J.G. (Pilot) J43567 P/O Smallwood J.A. (Navigator) J.45515 P/O Farlette J.R.G. (Air Bomber) R.191097 Sgt. McCron (Wireless Operator Air) all died as a result of multiple injuries and burns caused by aircraft crash (Wellington MK.X.LN 167) on 30.11.44 and that R.278665 Sgt Morris (Air Gunner) died as a result of multiple injuries as a result of the same aircraft crash. I was unable to determine the exact position of the crew members in the aircraft apart from the rear gunner who was removed from the rear turret. The other crew members were in the fore-part of the wreckage. I was not able to tell whether safety straps were used by the pilot owing to the extent of destruction of aircraft and the extensive fire.

I formed the opinion that he was a very conscientious pupil but although average his reactions were rather on the slow side.

10. DESCRIPTION OF ACCIDENT (or summary of pilot's report, if available). In cases of engine failure, information should be given as to the behaviour of the engine and manipulation of the engine controls immediately before failure.
Duration of flight since last take off: Hours . . . Minutes . . . If engine failure occurred during take off quote height . . .
Pilot killed.
[word missing] engine had failed, he feathered his engine and height is approx. known at 8000' (Verified by bombing range). It is not known whether he jettisoned petrol or not. He made one circuit of the airfield at approx. 100'. The visibility was 2,800 yards, therefore this aircraft was lost in sight by control tower for most of the circuit. It is not known whether he was force landing or attempting another circuit.

11. REPORT BY APPROPRIATE SPECIALIST OFFICERS (A. E. Nav., &c.):– (i) If technical failure is involved, information as to the nature and cause of the failure is required; precise information as to the extent of the damage arising as a result of this failure is not required. (ii) If the non-embodiment of an authorised modification is considered to have contributed to the accident the serial number of the modification and reason for non-embodiment should be stated.
Port engine failure – unit's strip inspection of defective engine revealed:
(i) all front cylinder connecting rods fractured.
(ii) all front sleeve drive cranks fractured and sleeves seized.
(iii) Front big end bearing run.
(iiii) Pistons in front bank of cylinders disintegrated.
It is suggested that the primary cause of engine failure was due to failure of front big end bearing with consequential oil starvation of front bank cylinder assembly, also loss of oil pressure would render the spray jet (which, is houses [sic] in the crankshaft front balance weight), inoperative leading to seizure of the sleeves through lack of oil and overheating.

A. Aircraft crashed and burnt while carrying out a single engine landing by day, at base – crew killed. Weather at time no low cloud. vis. 3,000 yards. (Port propellor feathered).
B. Primary cause was mechanical failure of port engine, cause being investigated by Headquarters No. 93 Group.
C. Accident caused by an error in judgement – contributory factors being investigated.

Dear Mrs. McCron,
It is with great sorrow that I write to confirm the sad news of the death of your husband, Sergeant McCron S.L.W. in a flying accident at 11.30 hours on the morning of November 30th 1944.
The aircraft was engaged on a training flight, when, for some reason which has not been explained, it suddenly crashed and became a total wreck, all of the crew being killed instantly. The accident took place at Sutton-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire, which is about three miles from this station, and the bodies were brought back here to await burial.
Owing to the time it takes to communicate with Canada, I was unable to consult you with regard to the funeral, and I do hope that the arrangements I made were in accordance with what you would have desired.
The funerals took place at Brookwood Cemetery, Surrey at 12 o'clock on December 4th, 1944. Full service honours were accorded. Bearers were sent by Royal Air Force Station, Farnborough, and Royal Canadian Air Force Headquarters, London, provided a firing party and trumpeter. The Presbyterian services were conducted by Squadron Leader A. Linton, from R.C.A.F. Headquarters, London, and I sent representatives from among the trainees who were friends of the crew. Wreaths were sent from the Officer Commanding and Officers, Senior N.C.Os. and airmen of this unit.

The care of the graves is in the hands of [missing word] Imperial War Graves Commission, who will erect a temporary wooden cross pending the provision of a permanent memorial by them.
Your husband's effects have been gathered together and are being sent to the Royal Air Force Depository, from where they will be forwarded to the Administrator of Estates, Ottawa, who will in due course write to you with regard to this matter.
I send you my most sincere sympathy in your great sorrow. Your husband was keen and hardworking, and in his death, this unit and his country have sustained a real loss.
There is very little I can say to you in consolation, but I hope you will always remember with pride that your husband gave his life in the cause of freedom, fighting for all he held dear.
If there is anything I can do for you, please do not hesitate to write.

Navigator’s, air gunner’s and air bomber’s flying log book for G Babbage, air gunner, covering the period from 15 December 1942 to 8 April 1945. Detailing his flying training and operations flown. He was stationed at RAF Stormey Down, RAF Riccall, RAF Pocklington, RAF Rufforth, RAF Faldingworth, RAF Sandtoft, RAF Driffield, RAF Grimsby, RAF Warboys and RAF Upwood. Aircraft flown in were Defiant, Whitley, Halifax, and Lancaster. He flew a total of 51 operations, 26 with 102 Squadron, 2 with 100 Squadron and 23 with 156 Squadron. Targets were St Nazaire, Essen, Kiel, Frankfurt, Duisburg, Dortmund, Bochum, Dusseldorf, Le Cruseot, Gelsenkirchen, Montbelliard, Hamburg, Nurnberg, Berlin, Kassel, Cannes, Neuss, Bonn, Opladen, Cologne, Osterfeld, Munich, Goch, Politz, Dresden, Pforzheim, Homburg, Misburg, Hanau, Heide and Harburg. His pilots on operations were Flight Lieutenant Carey, Warrant Officer Brooks, Flying Officer Parkinson and Flying Officer Edge.

Flying log book for aircrew other than pilot for R C Weeden, navigator, covering the period from 27 May 1943 to 31 January 1948. Detailing his flying training, operations flown and post war flying with 35 squadron. He was stationed at RCAF Malton, RCAF Port Albert, RAF Llandwrog, RAF Desborough, RAF Chedburgh, RAF Feltwell, RAF Mepal, RAF Graveley and RAF Stradishall. Aircraft flown in were Anson, Wellington, Stirling, Lancaster, Lincoln, Dakota, York and Proctor. He flew a total of 34 operations with 75 Squadron, 24 daylight and 10 night. He also flew Operation Goodwill to the United States with 35 Squadron. Targets were Pont Remy, Eindhoven, Le Havre, Stettin, Frankfurt, Calais, Kattegat, Walcheren, Saarbrucken, Dortmund, Emmerich, Duisburg, Bonn, Stuttgart, Flushing, Essen, Solingen, Koblenz, Homberg, Gelsenkirchen, Cologne, Osterfeld, Oberhausen, Hamm and Merseburg. His pilot on operations was Flying Officer Ford.

Extracts from log book from July 1944 on No 1 LFS and 625 Squadron on operations flying Lancasters and Oxfords on beam approach training, and then onto 156 Squadron in September 1944 until May 1945. There is also a summary of operations flown on 156 Squadron, a list of the stations he served at, a Tiger Moth endorsement and Link trainer sessions. His first or second pilots on operations were Pilot Officer Maxwell, Flight Lieutenant Marvin, Pilot Officer Kelsey, Pilot Officer Pollard and Flying Officer Lambert. Completed 60 Operations plus Operation Manna and Operation Exodus. Operations 4-18 missing from logbook. This item was sent to the IBCC Digital Archive already in digital form. No better quality copies are available.

An account of the resource
Wireless operators flying log book for F W Elliott, covering the period from 1 October 1943 to 13 July 1947. Detailing his flying training, operations flown and post war flying duties with Radio Warfare Establishment. He was stationed at RAF Madley, RAF Llandwrog, RAF Chipping Warden, RAF Foulsham, RAF Watton and RAF Mildenhall. Aircraft flown in were Proctor, Dominie, Anson, Wellington, Halifax, Mosquito, Fortress and Lancaster. He flew a total of 38 operations with 192 squadron. Targets were Brest, Pas de Calais, Belgian-Dutch coast, Heligoland, Frisian Islands, North Sea patrol, Sylt, Julich, Mannheim, Munchengladbach, Ruhr and Stuttgart. His pilots on operations were Pilot Officer Earl, Flight Lieutenant Ford, Flying officer Irvine, Flight Lieutenant Hayter-Preston, Flight Sergeant Love and Squadron Leader Crotch.
