Sam Saunders's flying log book
Detailing his flying training and operations flown as navigator 16 January 1941 to 9 January 1946. He was stationed at RCAF Winnipeg (6 AOS), RCAF MacDonald (3 B&GS), RCAF Rivers (1 ANS), RAF Harwell (15 OTU), RAF Shallufa (38 and 40 Squadrons), RAF Upper Heyford (16 OTU), RAF Hendon (24 and 512 Squadrons), RAF Doncaster (271 Squadron), RAF Marham (1655 MTU), RAF Oakington (627 Squadron), RAF Graveley (692 Squadron), RAF Wyton (128 Squadron), RAF Crosby-on-Eden (109 TCU), RAF Almaza (216 Squadron).
Aircraft flown in were Anson, Battle, Wellington, Hudson, Tiger Moth, Dakota, Sparrow, Oxford, Proctor and Mosquito.
He flew 3 night operations with 38 Squadron, 42 with 40 Squadron, 8 with 627 Squadron, 45 with 692 squadron and 9 with 128 Squadron, a total of 107. Navigator’s, air bombers and air gunner’s flying log book for H A J Pollock, air gunner, covering the period from 22 October 1943 to 20 May 1955. Detailing his flying training, operations flown and post war flying with number 3 flying training school. He was stationed at RAF Andreas, RAF Abingdon, RAF Stanton Harcourt, RAF Rufforth, RAF Breighton and RAF Feltwell. Aircraft flown in were Anson, Whitley, Martinet, Halifax, Dakota, Liberator, Prentice, Harvard, Provost and Meteor. He flew a total of 36 operations with 78 squadron, 18 Daylight and 17 night operations with 78 squadron and one with number 10 operational training unit. Targets were Compiegne, Mount Candon, Blainville, St Martin L’Hortiers, Caen, Acquet, Bottrop, Kiel, Foret du Croc, Foret du Nieppe, Prouville, Bois de Cassan, Brest, Foret du Marmal, Brunswick, Quensay, Tirlemont, Watten, Homberg-Meerbeck, Lumbres, Soesterberg, Le Havre, Kattegat, Munster, Neuss, Kleve, Duisburg, Wilhelshaven, Essen, Westkappelle and Sterkrade. His pilot on operations was Flight Lieutenant Selby.

He was stationed at RCAF Fingal (4 B&GS), RCAF Port Albert (31 ANS), RCAF Jarvis (1 B&GS), RAF Skaebrae (1476 Advanced Ship Recognition Course), RAF Mona (8 OAFU), RAF Moreton-in-Marsh (21 OTU), RAF Marston Moor (1652 HCU), RAF Pocklington (102 Squadron), RAF Driffield and RAF Foulsham (462 RAAF Squadron), Aircraft flown in were Anson, Bolingbroke, Wellington and Halifax. He flew four daylight and four night-time operations with 102 Squadron and five daylight and twenty two night-time operations with 462 RAAF Squadron, a total of 35. Targets were Foret de Nieppe, Villers Bocage, De Bruyere, Somain, Brunswick, Eindhoven, Sterkrade, Wemars Capelle, Soesterberg, Le Havre, Gelsenkirchen, Nordstein, Kiel, Boulogne, Duisburg, Wilhelmshaven, Hanover, Essen, Ostkapelle, Domberg, Soest, Hamburg, Sylt, Koblentz, Bonn, Mainz, Rheine, Heilbronn, Neuss, Kaiserlautern, Mannheim and Dortmund. <span>His pilots on operations were </span>Flight Sergeant Mitchell, Flying Officer Sanderson, Squadron Leader Jackson, Flying officer Wther [?], Flying Officer Boyd, Flying Officer Anderson, Flying Officer McIndle and Flight Lieutenant James. F J Allnutt’s RAAF Observer’s Air Gunner’s and W/T Operator’s Flying Log Book, from 22nd October 1943 to 27th November 1944, recording his training and operations as an air gunner. Aircraft in which flown: Battle, Oxford, Wellington X, Halifax II, Halifax V, Lancaster. He was stationed at RAAF Base West Sale (No. 3 Bombing and Air Gunnery School), RAF Lichfield (27 Operational Training Unit), RAF Ingham (1481 Bombing and Gunnery Flight), RAF Blyton (No. 1662 Conversion Unit), RAF Hemswell (No. 1 Lancaster Finishing School) and RAF Kelstern (625 Squadron). He completed a total of 31 operations (11 night, 20 day) on the following targets in France, Germany and Netherlands: Calais, Cologne, Domburg (recorded as “Bomburg”), Dortmund, Douai, Duisberg, Duren, Emmerich, Essen, Fontaine le Pin (Normandy battlefront), Fort Fredrik Hendrik, Freiburg, Le Havre, Neuss, <span>Œuf-en-Ternois</span>, Russelheim, Saarbrucken, Stettin, Stuttgart, Vincly, Volkel and Wanne Eickel, His pilot on operations was Flying officer Harvey. Also includes various comments on operations, including “Only kite to bomb aiming point” and “WIZARD PRANG”.

Detailing his flying training and operations flown, together with his post war service in Transport Command. Includes details of targets, certificates of competency, hit by anti-aircraft fire, additional notes following his aircraft being shot down and returning to operations. He was stationed at RAF Dishforth (1664 HCU), RAF East Moor (432 Sqdn RCAF), RAF Tholthorpe (420 Sqdn RCAF), RAF Nutts Corner (1332 HCU), RAF Stoney Cross (242 Sqdn), RAF Holmsley South (246 Sqdn), RAF Lyneham (511 Sqdn). Aircraft flown in were Halifax, York and Stirling. He flew 36 operations (21 night time and 15 daylight) with 432 and 420squadrons. He was stationed at RCAF Picton (31 Bombing & Gunnery School), RCAF Mount Hope (33 Air Navigation School), RAF Moreton-in-Marsh (21 OTU and 311 FTU), RAF Kairouan (142 Squadron), RAF El Ballah (Advanced Bombing & Gunnery School), RAF Qastina (77 OTU), RAF Torterella (37 Squadron) and RAF Pershore (23 OTU). Aircraft flown in were Anson, Battle Wellington, Dominie and DC3. Targets were - first tour – Messina (6), Olbia, Cagliari, Catania (2), Palermo, Syracuse, Marsala, Battipaglia (2), Reggio, Aquino, Pratica di Mare, Capodichino, Naples, Lamezia, Paolo-Sapri, Salerno, Bagnoli, Torre Annunziata, Leghorn, Grosseto, Formia, 'Grass Roads' [sic], Viterbo, Pesaro, Leghorn, Grazzanise and Civitavecchia. Second tour – Valence , Ploesti, Szőny, Miskolc, Bologna (2), Ravenna (3), Pesaro, Yugoslavia (Nickel), Danube (mining), Eleusis (2), Rimini, Salonika, Verona, Székesfehérvár, Opicina, Vinkovci, and Maribor. Shot down on this raid. He flew 35 night operations with 142 Squadron and 21 night with 37 Squadron making a total of 56. His pilots on operations were Sergeant Pearce, Flying Officer Kirley and Pilot Officer Jeffares.

Service record John Henry (Jack) Thomas
Covers enlistment and early training in the Royal Australian Air Force. Continues with description of journey to England via the United States and training in England. Lists his crew formed during training. Joined 102 Squadron with Halifax Mk 3 on 12 July 1944 and completed tour 22 January 1944. Lists 36 operational sorties. Goes on to give a detailed description of a typical day's preparation for night bombing raid over Germany.
