John Francis Bank's observer's and air gunner's flying log book
The observer's and air gunner's flying log book for Flight Lieutenant John Francis Banks, born I July 1922, (1578295 Royal Air Force) from 28 March 1943 to 9 April 1946. Detailing his training and operations flown. Served at 41 Air School South Africa, Advanced Flying Unit RAF Wigtown, 84 Operational Training Unit RAF Desborough, 192 Squadron RAF Foulsham, 221 Group and 47 Squadron South East Asia Air Force. Aircraft flown were Oxford, Anson, Wellington, Tiger Moth, Dakota, Expeditor and Mosquito. He carried out 40 operations, 32 night time and 8 day time as bomb aimer. All operations were flown in Wellington aircraft with Flying Officer Clarkson as pilot. The operations were to the coasts of Belgium, Denmark, France Germany and Netherlands, the Bay of Biscay and Western Approaches, Channel Islands, Brest, Calais, Cherbourg and the Frisian Islands.

Aircraft flown in were Halifax and Lancaster, He flew a total of 57 operations including 26 night and 31 day operations with 35 Squadron. Targets were, Kiel, Stuttgart, Caen, Bois de Cassan, Trossy St. Maximin, Acquet, Forêt de Nieppe, Falaise, Le Culot, Stettin, Emden, Le Havre, Wanne Eickel, Calais, Cap Griz Nez, Dortmund, Duisburg, Wilhelmshaven, Essen, Walcheren, Westkapelle, Oberhausen, Gelsenkirchen, Freiburg, Urft dam, Leuna oil plant, Ulm, Cologne, St. Vith, Rheydt, Bonn, Mannheim, Mainz, Dresden, Chemnitz, benzol plant at Borttrod-Stinnes, oil plant at Heide-Hemmingstedt, Gladbeck, Munster, Nordhausen, Hamburg, Bayreuth, Potsdam and Helgoland. His pilot on 56 operations was Flight Lieutenant L B Lawson and for one was Wing Commander L E Good. Targets were Berlin, Magdeburg, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Schweinfurt, Chateauroux, Frankfurt, Nuremburg, Tours, Aachen, Paris, Brunswick, Louailles, Brest, Duisburg, Saumur, St Pierre du Mont, Argentan, Poitiers, St Cyr, Givors, Cahagnes, St Leu D’Esserent, Sequeville, Ladbergen, Essen, Lutzkendorf and Bremen. He also flew 3 operation Exodus and 2 Cooks tours.

Carried out a total of 39 operations. One night propaganda leaflet drop with 29 OTU, 11 night operations with 106 Squadron, 11 night operations with 630 Squadron, 9 day and 7 night operations with 617 Squadron. Targets included Paris, Berlin, Nuremberg, München Gladbach, Munich, Kassel, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Hannover, Dusseldorf, Toulouse, Saumur Tunnel, Le Havre, Boulogne, Watten, St Omer, Wizernes, Rilly la Montagne, Siracourt, Etaples, Brest. His pilot on operations was Flying Officer Cheney.

Flying log book for navigators, air bomber, air gunners & flight engineers for James Swaffield, navigator, Covering the period from 18 August 1943 to the end of his operations on 5 January 1945 (but logbook certified to 21 April 1945). Detailing his flying training and operations flown. He was stationed at RAF Husbands Bosworth, RAF Winthorpe, RAF Syerston, RAF Metheringham and RAF Spilsby. He flew a total of 30 operations with 57 Squadron, 12 daylight and 18 night. Targets were Caumont, Joigny, Trossy St Maximin, St Leu d'Esserent, L' Isle-Adam, Bordeaux, Brest, Bergueneuse, Deelan, Sequeville de Capagne, Chatellerault, Brunswick, Stettin, Koningsberg, Mönchengladbach, Darmstadt, Stuttgart, Le Havre, Boulogne, Wilhemshaven, Bremmerhaven, Munster, Karlsruhe, Kaiserslauten, Heligoland, minelaying and Trondheim. <span>His pilots on operations were Flight Lieutenant </span>Ottewell and Flying Officer Donkin. Letter from Wally Layne to his wife
Says he writes regularly and hope his letters are getting through but he has had none from her for two months. Says he is an an army camp now and they get their mail regularly. He says he will move camp again the next day and will write when able to. Hopes baby is doing well and and says everyone is confident that the war will be over soon. Says he has not received his second parcel and hopes it will arrive when they had settled in a camp again.

Chris Scrimshaw's RAF navigator’s, air bombers and air gunner’s flying log book
C Scrimshaw’s air gunner’s flying log book covering the period from 11 August 1943 to 12 Aug 1944. Detailing his operations flown as air gunner. He was stationed at RAF Bishop’s Court (12 AGS), RAF Finningley, Bircotes and Worksop (18 OTU) and RAF Skellingthorpe (61 Squadron). Aircraft flown in were Anson, Wellington and Lancaster. He flew a total of twenty daylight and eight night-time operations with 61 Squadron. Targets were Aachen, Caen, St Cyr, St Leu D’Esserent, Bois d’Cassan, Trossy, Thiverny, Juvisy, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Mailly-de-Camp, Lille, Bourg-Leopald, Ferme-Durville, St Pierre-du-Mont, Argentan, Rennes, Poitiers, Aberville, Vitey, St Nazaire, Givors, Sequeville and Russelheim - from this operation noted ‘Missing from Ops’. His pilots on operations were Flight Lieutenant Berry, Pilot Officer Forrest, Pilot Officer Norton, Squadron Leader Beard DFC, Flying officer Gibberd, Pilot Officer North, Pilot Officer Cooper, Pilot Officer Taylor, Flying officer Heath and Wing Commander Doubleday.

Letter describing Robert's aircraft being shot down, baling out, suffering burns and now a prisoner of war. Yeoman states he was given the letter by a woman when he entered Fecamp.

Letter from Joan Wareing, to husband Bob
She writes that she is sorry to hear he have been feeling tired and is in need of a long rest which he should get on his next leave. She is sunbathing whilst writing and has the following day off from work. She mentions family and friends and asks him to let her know if he is bringing his friend with him on leave. She mentions that she may be going to see the RAF College Band and tells him not to worry about the car.

Memoire of trip to France and events after D-Day
Starts with hand drawn map of Normandy marking main towns. The author records his experience on or around D-Day of bailing out of an aircraft shot down and on fire, and the subsequent aid given to him by the French Resistance. He also records a return visit to France, along with surviving crew to honour those members of his crew who didn’t survive being shot down and were buried at Saint-Vigor-d'Ymonville. Records meeting French Lady who helped him as relates story of the rest of his return trip to France.
