'Johnny' was tough as a baby
FOUR STAGES in the life of Wing-Commander J.E. ("Johnny") Johnson, treble D.S.O., double D.F.C., now Britain's top fighter ace with a score of 35 kills. Here is picture No. 1 from the Johnson family album. It was taken in July 1915. "Johnny" already showed signs of the fight[missing letters]g spirit for, says his mother, "at the age of four months [missing letter]e was a tough baby." The future 400 miles per hour flier c[missing letters]d not even crawl a yard in an hour then. When he brou[missing letters]t his score up to 35 recently, Johnson saved the life of one of his pilots, Flight-Lieutenant Copeland. His squadron took on 12 enemy planes, and when Copeland had his right aileron shot away "Johnny" swooped and, with a burst [missing letters]nt a menacing Messerschmitt 109 cras[missing letters] in flames.

HONEYMOON PICTURE from the family album – November 1942. Wing-Commander "Johnny" Johnson and his bride Pauline. They met at a party in Norwich. "It was love at first sight," Mrs Johnson said last night. Johnny is 28 now. He joined the R.A.F. in April 1939, was commissioned the following year and scored his first victories as a fighter pilot in the squadron of Wing-Commander Bader, the leg[missing letters] pilot, now a prisoner of war.

Dear Mrs Wilson
Thank you so much for your kind letter of sympathy, our sympathy is with you tro. [sic] in this terrible time of anziety [sic]. The only thing we can do is hope and pray that they are all safe somewhere, and they had such confidence in their leader, your husband that I

feel that they must be somewhere.
I will certainly let you know soon as we hear anything about our boy, which I hope will be soon.
I must thank you again for your letter, as it helped me quite a lot. I have been so worried, but after reading your letter I felt better and more hopeful.
Yours very sincerely

Dearest Angel,
Thanks heaps for your letter which I recieved [sic] about an hour ago. Thanks too for sending the comb along [deleted] Pet [/deleted] (mucky b – s!) Pet. As a matter of fact I have another but it isn’t much use.
We didn’t do Ops. last night as you probably know but we were briefed and got as far as getting out to the Air craft. I was awfully glad it was scrubbed because I wasn’t a bit keen. Matter of fact (said that before too) I think the strawberries and raspberries must have upset me somewhat. But they we [sic] nice just the same and it was worth it. However, I feel O.K. again but I’d rather wait ‘till after leave

before Ops. Getting lazy.
I haven’t had any replies to my pleas to the hens in the North yet. Should be something for me tomorrow.
Tag and I tried to grab the Gunnery Leader this morning but his Office was full of bods (as usual) and nowt could be did. We’ll see what we can do this afternoon.
Darling, you are forgiven for saying no the other night but that’s not what upset me. You can say no any time you wish and I won’t care such a helluva lot. You said you wanted to wait and see if that’s all I came to see you for and it was that which hurt, and how.
I assure you Pet that that is not why I come to see you. I come because I love you and what better reason

could anyone want. At the time it seemed you were more or less experimenting with me.
But let’s forget it all darling. You are completely, totally and lovingly forgiven so please don’t worry. After all I don’t blame you now.
I think I have run short of news (there isn’t any anyway) so will say T.T.T.T. (Ta ta till tomorrow).
All my fondest love.
I do love you darling.
And hundreds of x’s
Yours

Roosevelt elnök kijelentette
President Roosevelt, speaking on behalf of the Allies, solemnly promises that all Holocaust perpetrators will be prosecuted. This applies not only to the leaders but to the ranks and file who carried out their orders, in Germany and elsewhere. Those who took part in the deportations of the Jews to Poland are as guilty as concentration camp personnel. Includes a quote by Béla Imrédy claiming that not even a drop of Jewish blood taints the hands of the Hungarian authorities or the the Hungarian people.
