The collection concerns Flight Lieutenant Ronald Witty DFM (1520694 Royal Air Force) and contains his log book, navigation charts and logs of all his operations, photographs and correspondence home from training in South Africa. He flew thirty operations as a navigator with 12 Squadron before going as an instructor on 1656 HCU and then 576 and 50 Squadrons after the war.
The collection has been donated to the IBCC Digital Archive by David Witty and catalogued by Nigel Huckins.

Flying Log Book for Paul Wilson, pilot. Covers period from 22 October 1942 to 28 March 1946 including his training, operations, Transport Command and post-war civilian flying in Australia. He was based at RAF Lulsgate Bottom, RAF Babdown Farm, RAF South Cerney, RAF Lichfield, RAF Marston Moor, RAF Leconfield and RAF Driffield. Aircraft flown were Tiger Moth, Anson, Oxford, Wellington, Halifax and C-47. Serving with 466 and 462 Squadrons he flew 41 operations: 16 night and 25 day. An account of the resource
Flying log book (Partial) for P H C Watson, air gunner, covering the period from 13 February 1944 to 7 June 1944 and for April 1945. Detailing some of his operations flown. He was stationed at RAF Elsham Wolds, RAF Ludford Magna and RAF Witchford. Aircraft flown in was Lancaster. He flew 10 operations as indicated in his log book, the last two being part of a second tour. These were with 101 squadron and 115 squadron. Targets were, Schweinfurt, Augsburg, Frankfurt, Essen, Nurnburg and Berneval le Grand. His pilots on operations were Sergeant Dixon, Flight Sergeant Arnold, Flight Sergeant Carson, Flight Lieutenant Robson and Flight Lieutenant Dick.

Flying log book for R S Miles covering the period from 11 March 1944 to 28 February 1946 covers and front pages missing. Detailing his flying training and operations flown, together with his post war service in Transport Command. Includes details of targets, certificates of competency, hit by anti-aircraft fire, additional notes following his aircraft being shot down and returning to operations. He was stationed at RAF Dishforth (1664 HCU), RAF East Moor (432 Sqdn RCAF), RAF Tholthorpe (420 Sqdn RCAF), RAF Nutts Corner (1332 HCU), RAF Stoney Cross (242 Sqdn), RAF Holmsley South (246 Sqdn), RAF Lyneham (511 Sqdn). R G Blamires Observer’s and Air Gunner’s Flying Log Book covering the period from 25 November 1942 to 10 May 1946, detailing his flying training and operations flown as Navigator. He was stationed at South African AF Port Elizabeth (42 Air School), RAF Millom (2 OAFU), RAF Wymeswold (28 OTU), RAF Blyton (1662 HCU), RAF Hemswell (1 LFS), RAF Elsham Wolds (103 Squadron) and RAF Scampton and RAF Lindholme (57 Squadron). Aircraft flown in Anson, Wellington, Halifax, Lancaster and Lincoln. He flew on one night operation with 1662 HCU, and 17 night and 13 day operations with 103 Squadron, total 31. He also flew three Operation Manna and three Operation Dodge POW repatriation flights. Targets were Orleans, Duisburg, Dortmund, Aachen, Calais, St Martin-de-Varreville, Vire, Flers, Gelsenkirchen, Cahagnes, Le Havre, Belle Croix les Bruyeres, Trossy St Maximon, Paulliac, Blayes, Fontenay, Le Culot, mining Stettin, Rieme, Russelheim, mining Danzig, Chapelle-Notre-Dame, Stettin, Agenville, Eindhoven, Leeuwarden and Neuss.

An account of the resource
Flying log book for navigator’s air bomber air gunner’s flight engineers for Victor Stapley, flight engineer. Covers two periods; training and operations 18 January 1944 to 2 July 1944 and post-war service in Flying Control from 19 September 1945 to 23 January 1950. He was stationed at RAF St Athan, RAF Lindholme, RAF Kirmington, RAF Watchfield and RAF Henlow. Aircraft flown in were Halifax, Lancaster, Anson, Dominie, Proctor, Beaufighter, Tiger Moth, Mosquito, York and C-47. He flew a total of 28 operations with 166 Squadron, 3 daylight and 25 night. Targets were Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Berlin, Essen, Nuremberg, Aachen, Cologne, Dusseldor, mine laying, Rouen, Lyons, Aubigne, Mardyk, Mailly le Camp, Hasselt, Calais, Boulogne, Crisbicq, Acheres, Gelsenkirchen, Chateau Bernapre, Domleger and Oisemont. His pilot on operations was Pilot Officer Wiggins.

Collection consists of 521 items which are mostly Operations orders, aircraft load and weight tables and bomb aimers briefings for 44 Squadron operations between January 1944 and April 1945. <br /><br />The collection has been loaned to the IBCC Digital Archive for digitisation by M J Chatterton and catalogued by Nigel Huckins. <br /><br />This collection also contains items concerning Dewhurst Graaf and his crew, and Donald Neil McKechnie and his crew. Ten items. An oral history interview with Flying Officer William Holmes DFC (b. 1921, 131013, 176554 Royal Air Force), his logbook, a memoir by his bomb aimer, official documents, Guinea Pig Club memorabilia, photographs of him and his crew and a memoir of his time training in Canada. He was a Stirling pilot on 149 Squadron in 1944. He flew 17 operations before crashing his aircraft at RAF Thorney Island 18 June 1944 and subsequently becoming a member of the Guinea Pig Club.
The collection has been loaned to the IBCC Digital Archive for digitisation by William and Bill Holmes and catalogued by Nigel Huckins.

Royal Canadian Air Force pilots flying log book for W C Holmes, covering the period from 18 August 1942 to 18 May 1945. Detailing his flying training, operations flown and post war flying with 512 squadron and transport command. He was stationed at RCAF Moncton, RCAF Bowden, RCAF Estevan, RAF Harrogate, RAF Shawbury, RAF Condover, RAF Holme, RAF Chipping Warden, RAF Wratting Common, RAF Lakenheath, RAF Methwold, RAF Morecambe, RAF Broadwell, RAF Northolt, RAF Leicester North and RAF Syerston. Aircraft flown in were, Tiger Moth, Stearman, Anson, Oxford, Wellington, Stirling and C-47. He flew a total of 17 night operations with 149 squadron. Targets were, Laon, Kiel, Brest, Friesland, Ile de Rea, St Nazaire and Lens. Five of these were special operations. His pilots for his first 'second dickie' operations were Pilot Officer Coates and Flight Lieutenant Wooley.
