R W Slaughter’s Royal Canadian Air Force Flying Log Book for Aircrew other than Pilot
R W Slaughter’s Flying Log Book detailing operations and training flown as Air Gunner covering the period 15 October 1942 to 17 August 1943. He was stationed at RCAF MacDonald (3 Bombing & Gunnery School), RAF Upper Heyford (16 OTU), RAF Wigsley (1654 HCU) and RAF Fiskerton (49 Squadron). Aircraft flown in were Battle, Wellington and Lancaster. He flew seven night operations with 49 Squadron. Targets were Krefeld, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg and four with target not detailed. His pilot on operations was Flying Officer Randall. The seventh operation was appended “Missing” followed by “Death presumed”.

John Madge's Log Book
J G Madge’s Observer’s and Air Gunner’s Flying Log Book detailing operations and training flown covering the period 18 November 1942 to 10 November 1944. He was stationed at RAF Morpeth (4 AGS), RAF Little Horwood (26 OTU), RAF Marham (1483 (B)G Flight), RAF Stradishall (1657 HCU), RAF Wratting Common (90 Squadron), RAF Barford St John (16 OTU), RAF Swinderby (1654 HCU), RAF Syerston (5 LFS), RAF Coningsby (97 Squadron) and RAF Warboys (NTU) . Aircraft flown in were Botha, Welllngton, Stirling, Martinet and Lancaster. He flew 17 night operations with 90 Squadron and 2 night operations with 97 Squadron. Targets were Mining (4), Hamburg (3), Remscheid, Turin, Peenemunde, Berlin (2), Nuremburg, Monchen Gladbach, Kassel, Mannheim, Leverkusen and with 97 Squadron Ladbergen and Rheine. His pilots on operations were Flight Sergeant Brayshaw and Flight Lieutenant Runnacles. On a training flight on 10th November 1944 his aircraft was posted as ”missing” and he was “ Death presumed” in May 1946.

Eric Frederick Coling's observer's and air gunner's flying log book
Observer's and air gunner's flying log book for Bomb Aimer Eric Frederick Coling from June 1942 to February 1953. Detailing his training schedule, operations flown and post war duties. Served at 44 Air School, South Africa; 16 Operational Training Unit, Upper Heyford; 1660 Conversion Unit, RAF Swinderby and RAF Skellingthorpe. Aircraft flown were Anson, Oxford, Wellington, Manchester and Lancaster Mk 1, Mk3. Eric completed a total of 13 night time operations but on the fourteenth was reported as missing. The operations were carried out as bomb aimer over targets in Italy and Germany: Turin, Milan, Hamburg, Mannheim, Nuremberg, Peenemünde, Berlin and Hannover. His pilots on operations were Pilot Officer Dennis and Flight Sergeant Code. In his proficiency tests Eric was described as 'average' and as being 'keen and reliable'. His post war flying is recorded.

Fred Dunn's observer's and air gunner's flying log book
F T Dunn’s Air Bomber’s Flying Log Book covering the period from 24 September 1942 to 22 November 1943. Detailing his flying training and operations flown as air bomber. He was stationed at RAF Mount Hampden as pupil pilot 3-21 Aug 1942, South African RAF Grahamstown (44 Air School), RAF Honeybourne and RAF Long Marston (24 OTU), RAF Riccall (1658 HCU) and RAF Pocklington (102 Squadron). Aircraft flown in were Oxford, Anson, Whitley and Halifax. He flew on 12 night operations with 102 Squadron. Targets were Hamburg, Mannheim, Nuremburg, Milan, Peenemunde, Montlucon, Modane, Hanover and Berlin – log book annotated on this date ‘Shot up Halifax crashed in mid-air over base’. Annotated ‘Killed in action’. His pilots on operations were Flight Sergeant Hughes and Warrant Officer Brooks.

A F Dowding’s Flight Engineer’s Flying Log Book covering the period from 06 June 1943 to 16 February 1944 when he became ‘missing-death presumed’. Detailing his flying training and operations flown as a Flight Engineer. He was stationed at RAF Leeming (1664 HCU), RAF Middleton St George (428 Squadron RCAF ) and RAF Skipton-on-Swale (424 Squadron RCAF). He flew seventeen night operations with 428 Squadron and one night operation with 424 Squadron, eighteen in total. Aircraft flown in was Halifax. Targets were Cologne, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Mannheim, Nurnburg, Milan, Peenemunde, Nuremburg, Mönchengladbach, Berlin, Kassel, Cannes, Frankfurt, and Leipzig. His pilots on operations were Pilot Officer Reilander and Squadron Leader Suggett.

Based at RAF Walney Island (aka RAF Barrow in Furness) (No. 10 Air Gunnery School), RAF Yatesbury (No. 2 Signals School), RAF Saltby and RAF Cottesmore (14 OTU), RAF Wigsley (1654 Conversion Unit), RAF Syerston and RAF Metheringham (106 Squadron). Aircraft flown: Dominie, Proctor, Defiant, Wellington IC, Manchester, Lancaster I and Lancaster III. Records a total of 23 night operations (plus three returned early), final entry reads “Bombing - Berlin failed to return”. Targets in Germany and Italy are: Berlin, Bochum, Cologne, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Gulf of Danzig, Hamburg, Hanover, Kassel, Krefeld, Leverkusen, Mannheim, Milan, Mulheim, Munich, Nurnburg, Oberhausen, Peenemunde and Remscheid. His pilot on operations was Flying officer Hoboken, with second pilots Flight Sergeant Cheney, Sergeant Holburn and Flying officer Banfield.

Part 1. "By the Seat of his Pants". Covers from Alan Gamble's years as a schoolboy in Worthing in the late 1930's, up to joining the RAF in 1943, where he trained as a wireless operator in Blackpool. He joined 620 Squadron, which was equipped mainly with Stirlings and based initially at Leicester East, then Chedburgh, before it moved to Fairford in 1944. He flew 29 bombing and mine laying sorties over Germany and elsewhere. At Fairford '620' also supported SOE and participated in the Horsa glider operation at Arnhem.
Part 2, "No Problem Sport".Covers Alan Gamble's short flying history over France in 1945 before being shot down, and his experiences as a POW in southern Germany and subsequent liberation. The manuscript of Part 2 appears to be complete except for one or more pages missing about two thirds of the way through. This is at the beginning or the end of a fragment bound by metal clips, and could easily have become detached as the outside pages of some fragments' in Part 3 were also lost. It is therefore possible that only one page is missing.

J D Harris’s observer’s and air gunner’s flying log book
Observer’s and air gunner’s flying log book for J D Harris, navigator, covering the period from 22 April 1942 to 26 November 1945. Detailing his flying training, operations flown and instructor duties. He was stationed at RCAF Ancienne Lorette, RAF Oakley, RAF Winthorpe, RAF Syerston, RAF Fiskerton, RAF Wigsley and RAF Coningsby. Aircraft flown in were Anson, Wellington, Manchester, Lancaster, Oxford, Dakota and Stirling. He flew a total of 33 Operations, one with 106 Squadron, 28 with 49 Squadron and 4 with 97 Squadron. He also flew 3 Operation Exodus, 2 Operation Dodge with 97 Squadron. His pilots on operations were Sergeant Munro, Flight Lieutenant Thomas, Warrant Officer Adams, Flight Lieutenant Hidderley, Flight Lieutenant Sexton and Flight Lieutenant Haye. Targets were Duisburg, Pilsen, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Essen, Wuppertal, Bochum, Friedrichshafen, Spezia, Cologne, Gelsenkirchen, Turin, Mannheim, Peenemunde, Berlin, Nuremberg, Hannover, Hagen, Kassel, Stettin, Magdeburg, Molbis, Lutzkendorf, Komatau, Brussels, Rheine, Pomigliano and Bari. <br /><br />This item was sent to the IBCC Digital Archive already in digital form. Extract from flying log book for bomb aimer’s for Ernest Harold Patrick, detailing his operations flown until failing to return from operations. He was stationed at RAF Scampton and RAF East Kirkby. Aircraft flown in was Lancaster. He flew a total of 21 night operations with 57 squadron. Targets were Hamburg, Mannheim, Nuremburg, Milan, Peenemunde, Leverkusen, Berlin, Hannover, Bochum, Kassel, Stuttgart, Dusseldorf and Modane. His pilot on operations was Pilot Officer Tansley.

Posted to 57 Squadron at RAF Scampton. List his operations from 12 July 1943 up until 2nd December 1943 when he was shot down and killed. Describes his last operation to Berlin. Concludes with a combat report from 57 Squadron on 22/23 September 1943 on Lancaster ED 655 which was attacked by night fighters gunners engaged fighters..
