A D Hope’s navigator’s, air bomber’s and air gunner’s flying log book. One
Navigator’s, air bomber’s and air gunner’s flying log book one, for A D Hope, wireless operator, covering the period from 15 December 1942 to 28 April 1949. Detailing his flying training, operations flown, instructor duties and post war flying duties with 62 squadron, 1382 transport conversion unit and 240 operational conversion unit. He was stationed at RAF Madley, RAF Upper Heyford, RAF Swinderby, RAF Skellingthorpe, RAF Wymeswold, RAF Syerston, RAF Palam, RAF Dum Dum and RAF North Luffenham. Aircraft flown in were Dominie, Proctor, Wellington, Manchester, Lancaster, Dakota, Valetta, and Devon. He flew a total of 20 night operations with 50 squadron, the aircraft being shot down on his 20th operation and he became a prisoner of war. Targets were Nuremberg, Milan, Leverkusen, Munchen Gladbach, Berlin, Munich, Hannover, Hagen, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Leipzig and Modane.

Leonard William Fairbanks' Observer' and Air Gunner's Flying Log Book
Leonard William Fairbanks' log book covering two tours from 3 January 1941 to 15 April 1945, detailing his training schedule and operations flown. Training was undertaken at Air Gunnery School at RAF Stormy Down, 25 OTU RAF Finningley, 25 OTU RAF Balderton and 20 OTU Lossiemouth. Operations were flown with 408 Squadron, RAF Leeming and 223 Squadron RAF Oulton. Aircraft flown were Dominie, Proctor, Whitley MK1, Wellington, Hampden, Oxford, Halifax, B-24 and Anson. The first tour, with 408 Squadron, comprised 28 night operations to Brest, La Rochelle, Wilhelmshaven, Paris, Heligoland, Rennes, Emden, Essen, Lorient, Bremen, Saarbrücken, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Osnabrück, Flensburg, Frisian Islands, Turin and Berlin. Many of the second tour's 20 nightime operations, with 223 Squadron, provided Window cover for the main force in addition to shore patrols. Target areas were the Ruhr, Dortmund-Ems Canal, Friedrichshafen, Bremen, Mannheim, Münster, Hagen, Würzburg, Kassel, Hamburg and Berlin. His duties were as air gunner, wireless operator and special operator. The pilots on operations were Sergeant Anderson, Flight Sergeant Wood, Sergeant Locker, Sergeant Jennings, Sergeant Ross, Sergeant Bell, Pilot Officer Kaye, Wing Commander Ferris, Squadron Leader Carrington, Flight Officer Thompson, Flight Lieutenant Allnutt, Flight Lieutenant Allnutt, Flight Lieutenant Croft and Flight Lieutenant Levy. Leonard was described as being 'an average air gunner' and as 'above average' with Special Duties (RCM).

Targets were Duisburg, Lorient, Fresian Isles, Cologne, St Jean de Luc, St Nazaire, Berlin, Hamburg, Kiel, Baltic Sea, Dortmund, Bochum, Wuppertal, Dusseldorf, Krefeld, Mullheim, Elberfeld, Gelsenkirchen, Aachen, Remscheid, Nurnberg, Nordhausen, Lutzkendorf, Plauen, Cuxhaven and Berchtesgaden. Operation Manna flights were to The Hague and Rotterdam. C. L. Hughes’ Observer’s and Air Gunner’s Flying Log Book, from 8th January 1942 to 8th July 1945, detailing his training, operations and instructional duties as a navigator. He was stationed at RCAF Charlottetown (32 Air Navigation School), RAF Millom (2 (O)AFU), RAF Lossiemouth (20 OTU), RAF Croft, RAF Leeming (427 Squadron), RAF Topcliffe (1659 CU), RAF Kinloss (19 OTU), RAF Shawbury (Empire Air Navigation School) and RAF Moreton In Marsh (21 OTU). Aircraft in which flown: Anson, Wellington IC, Wellington III, Wellington X, Halifax II, Halifax V, Halifax II Series IA, Whitley V, Stirling and Wellington XIII. He completed one tour of duties, a total 29½ night operations, plus three recorded as “Returned early” or “DNCO”. His pilot on operations was Pilot Officer Rodwell. Targets in France and Germany were: Berlin, Bochum, Cannes, Duisburg, Dusseldorf, Elberfeld, Essen, Hamburg, Hannover, Kassel, Kiel, Krefeld, Krefeld, Leverkusen, Lorient, Ludwigshafen, Mannheim, Munich, Nurnberg, St Nazaire, Stuttgart, Wilhelmshaven, and Wuppertal.
