My Dear Folks,
I have been trying to arrange my letters so that no long period should elapse between any two consecutive ones. Unfortunately, I am limited to two letters and two P. cards this month, and so you must forgive me if I have caused any anxiety. I have received no further mail since I last wrote, but am expecting my first clothes parcel to turn up shortly. - It should arrive before XMAS.
Things here are just the same as usual, and I am perfectly fit. I still spend most of my time reading, but contrary to what you might expect, the months seem to pass her remarkably quickly.
I forgot to request some gloves in my last letter, I would like you to purchase a pair of brown leather gloves, and include same in my uniform parcel.
How are you keeping? I was very pleased to hear the news of Basil & that the business was 'coping' very well. Please give my kindest regards to all the staff. Tell Basil that it is quite within the bounds of possibility that I shall be out there with him before we can attend Q.E.D. to the matter in hand.
Do you know anything of Pip Gales? I have written to him several times, but have as yet rec'd no news from him. His home address is 12 Barclay Rd, Croydon, perhaps you could make some enquiries for me. I am a little anxious at to what may have happened to him.
Will you please keep my car in as good condition as is compatible with your work & leisure hours, as I may want to part exchange it, or sell it altogether when prices are on the “ebb” after the war.
I am reserving one of my P.C's to write you again at the end of the month, by which time I expect to have received some more mail. Would you therefore give Mary the shortage of mail, as the excuse for my not writing her.
Please remember me to grandmothers both, and all the rest of my friends. I can think of nothing more to say at the moment but to wish you [underlined] all [/underlined] a very merry XMAS & NEW YEAR.
Your Affectionate Son
Alan.
