An oral history interview with Chief Technician David Kennedy Hicks (b. 1922, 0574954 Royal Air force), memories of the Battle of Britain, his Royal Air Force record, and photographs of his Halton entry, his time in Southern Rhodesia and 56 photographs, many of his time in Southern Africa. Ken Hicks joined the Royal Air Force in 1938 as a Halton apprentice. He served with 202 Squadron at RAF Hornchurch during the Battle of Britain as an aircraft rigger. Subsequently he served on training unit in Southern Rhodesia and then in Egypt, staying in the Royal Air Force after the war.
The collection has been loaned to the IBCC Digital Archive for digitisation by Ken Hicks and catalogued by Nigel Huckins.

One hundred and sixty-four items plus another one hundred and fifteen in two sub-ciollections. The collection concerns Flying Officer Kenneth Gill DFC (1922 - 1945, 1438901, 155097 Royal Air Force) and contains his log book, documents, photographs and family and other correspondence. <br />He flew operations as a navigator with 9 Squadron before starting a second tour with 617 Squadron. He was killed 21 March 1945 having completed 45 operations.<br /><br />The collection also contains two albums. <br /><a href="https://ibccdigitalarchive.lincoln.ac.uk/omeka/collections/show/2114">Kenneth Gill. YORKSHIREMEN IN CASUALTY LIST

Flying-Officer Kenneth Gill (22), D.F.C., husband of Mrs. V. Gill, of Sycamore Avenue, and son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Gill, of Kyffin Avenue, Halton, Leeds, is presumed dead. He was posted missing on March 21, after a raid over Bremen, on his 45th operational flight. He took part in the raid last year on the Tirpitz, when the ship was sunk. Flying-Officer Gill, who was awarded the D.F.C. in February, 1944, was commissioned in June, 1943. He was an old boy of the College of Technology, and was formerly a draughtsman at Leeds Fireclay Co., Torre Road.
Also presumed dead, after being posted missing in March, 1944, from operations over Frankfort, is Sgt. Flt.-Engineer Eric Lee (19), R.A.F., whose parents live in Greenthorpe Walk, Bramley. He attended Whingate School, and later worked at Avro, Yeadon.
Gunner William Walsh (30), Royal Artillery, whose wife lives in Sedan Place, Camp Road, Leeds, has died from cholera while a prisoner of war in the Far East on August 12, 1943

Lane, Yeadon, has news that her son, Sergt.-Air-Gnr. Edward Swart (24), who was reported missing on air operations in November last year, is now officially presumed killed. He was read-gunner in a Halifax bomber which raided Bochum in the Ruhr. He was previously employed by Edward Denison and Co., Westfield Mills, Yeadon.

He was one of the crew who flew in Lancaster AR-G -George, now preserved in the Australian War Memorial. He was a keen amateur photographer and the collection contains his photographs, logbook and papers. It also contains A Dorricott’s First World War Diary, and photographs of Leonard Dorricott’s log book being reunited with the Lancaster at the Australian War Memorial.
The collection has been loaned to the IBCC Digital Archive for digitisation by Rosemary Dorricott and catalogued by Barry Hunter.

17 items. The collection relates to James Henry Banks (b. 1916, 519903 Royal Air Force). He enlisted in the RAF 25 April 1935 and served as a photographer. The collection consists of two multiple page photograph albums, his service and pay book, his driving licence, statement of service and certificate of discharge, a NAAFI pass belonging to his wife, Grace Emily Banks, a pocket watch, loose photographs, and letters regarding his attempt to re-enlist in the RAF between 1948 and 1950. Also contains a RAF pocket book.<br /><br />This collection includes two albums:
<p style="margin-left: 40px;"><a href="https://ibccdigitalarchive.lincoln.ac.uk/omeka/collections/show/141" title="Album one" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Album one</a> contains photographs pre-war Harts and Harrow aircraft, of the RAF Advanced Air Striking Force in France in 1940, 2 Group aircraft and targets, and a number of aerial photographs of cities and targets in the Ruhr and the Low countries taken at low level during a sightseeing Cooks tour after VE Day. <br /><br /><a href="https://ibccdigitalarchive.lincoln.ac.uk/omeka/collections/show/163" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Album two</a> consists of a number of post-war photographs of RAF Seletar, Singapore, Burma and Cambodia.</p>
<p style="margin-left: 0px;">The collection has been loaned to the IBCC Digital Archive for digitisation by Peter Banks and catalogued by Barry Hunter and Nigel Huckins, with further identification kindly provided by the Archeologi dell'Aria research group (<a href="https://www.archeologidellaria.org/">https://www.archeologidellaria.org</a>)<span>.</span></p>
