Dear Bill,
And how are you? still working hard. Mum has been telling me you have been successful in the animal line – they will soon be attaching horses to their cars. What-ever next will you think of – you certainly are the business man. Have you managed to get any more trucks? I was thinking about you last week-end when I was shopping – I was looking around for that Parka, but all I can see is immatations [sic] – thin fabric material and you really need something to keep you warm in the lorry during winter. I did see a genuine horse leather completely lined with lambs wool so if you would like this let me know or they have a thick horseblanket jacket – no fur collar though – the leather one has. I wish I could have sent something before now, but had quite a few expenses lately, anyway the time you write I will be quite flushed. Well cheerio for now, open one of those bottles for Christmas and give Evelyn a big kiss for me
‘Bye for now

Dear Bill,
In reply to your air mail letter of which I was pleased to receive – thanks – and it was so good of you to remember my birthday. I have so little time to write letters, the work simply piles up especially on this course, and I am now receiving at regular intervals quite a batch of mail which I have not yet caught up in replying. From Mums letter you seem to be very busy at work, have you had any more cars yet? the rationing of petrol over here is getting quite severe and it is expensive to travel by train, but all the same I am seeing plenty of the country. I have still a long way to go, to get as far as Winnipeg, the nearest being Detroit, this is a grand place, but I still want to see more of New York. As far as I can see I shall have little opportunity to get about now, what with this course, we will have completed it by November, then to Moncton, then home, I believe we worked it out another 133 days, but I may have time yet. I am on a 48 hour pass this week-end, we get one each month, so I shall be spending this one in Toronto, I will have a look round for the coat you were asking about, and see what I can do. I bet Mum would spend a fortune over here, no shortage of clothes, no rationing. Well Bill I must close now, write when you can. Give my love to all especially little Evelyn.
All the best, Yours. Reg.

My dear Mum,
Many thanks for your air letter of the 11th which I received Monday and I am so glad to hear that you received my programme and wing. To clear the little matter up about the ‘O’. Well we are intitled to wear either, the only reason for wearing the ‘O’, is that the ‘N’ is a new badge and the RAF issue hasn’t yet reached Canada, officially we are Navigators. I would like to surprise you and say that I may be home in a month or so – we heard that some of us will be posted back to England, so don’t be surprised if I am one of them. I had another marvellous week-end in Toronto, and managed to get you six pairs of stockings, (only two pairs to a customer, but I wangled the box of six) I haven’t sent them on, as I heard the duty was enormous – in anycase [sic] I may deliver them in person. Well things are nearing a close and I would love to see you all again so I am keeping my fingers crossed, will cable you if anything turns up. Thank Dennis for his letter and airgraph, will write to him tonight, my best wishes to Bill. All my love to you

Says he had another marvellous weekend in Toronto and managed to get six pairs of stockings. He had not sent them on due to large amount of customs duty. My dear Mum,
I received your letter dated 5th yesterday, and I must say the mail is taking a little longer to come across, I expect it is the Christmas rush, but it was so good to hear from you again. Well we are now stuck at camp until our five days at Christmas, of course through this our 48s have been stopped throughout December, much to my annoyance, but I am hoping for a Sunday off before then so may be able to get up to Toronto. I was up there last week-end, to collect my photographs and Mrs. Ashton said she would pack them and send them on to you. There is one large and two small copies so that you can carry one in your bag and perhaps Dennis would like the other. I also managed to get little Evelyn a present, and the store is packing and forwarding it on to her. I will get you some stockings the next time I am there, let me know if there is anything else, shoes etc., anything that requires coupons, let me know the size. Well once again I must come to a close, we have just started exams again so I am again up to my neck in work. Regards to Dennis & Bill All my love

My dear Mum,
I had a letter from Mrs. Ashton today, saying that you had written to her which was very sweet of you – of course I hope you didn’t say to [sic] much of me – no doubt you did, do you know they spoil me so much, perhaps because there are only girls in the family, I am spending my 48 with them next week-end, so I shall hear all about it then. Just heard that I am getting five days leave at Christmas, so we are going to have a swell party, only wish it was my party with you all at home, but under the circumstances, lets all enjoy ourselves then, I will be thinking of you all. By the way I wrote a letter to Dennis last week, enclosing a couple of snaps – I am collecting the portraits next Saturday so will send them on soon after. Well, I hope you are all well especially you and little Evelyn, must close now, all my best to Dennis and Bill, My love to you

My dear Mum,
The mail situation to date has been very poor, haven’t heard from anyone yet, lets hope it improves this month. I wish I could have come home instead of stopping out here, it would have been so good to have seen you all again and definately [sic] something to celebrate especially now, so I am looking forward to this in the near future. Things are much the same out here, flying, lectures and other duties that have fallen upon me now. Tonight I am officer in charge of the Intelligence Library – very interesting. There is a vast change since L.A.C and I am sure you feel just as pleased about it all. By the way I hope my allowance is still coming through to you, it may have been temporally [sic] stopped, for I had to renew my forms, this has now been seen to, so I hope everything is O.K. If you need any more just let me know. Well, I hope you are all well at home especially yourself and Evelyn. Write soon. All my best to Dennis and Bill

Description
An account of the resource
Reports that mail situation was poor and he had not received any letters lately. Wished that he could have come home and seen them rather than staying in Canada. Writes that things were much the same there, flying, lectures and other duties. Mentions his current duty and says it has been a vast change since being a Leading Aircraftman. Hope his allowance was still getting through to her, although there might have been a temporary stop as he had had to renew all his paperwork.

My dear Mum,
Received your air mail letter dated 26.9.43 this evening the first since graduation, I expect your letters are being held up by the censor so don’t worry. Am enjoying the privilages [sic] of my rank but non-to-keen on the course, too much to cope with especially so short a period after the last course. Would have loved to have seen you all first, but as it is now Evelyn [underlined] will [/underlined] be old enough to go dancing with me – is she disappointed in not seeing me. Let me know is [sic] she wants anything in particular, clothes (size required) or yourself for that matter. At present you will have to wait til [sic] after Christmas until I have some cash at hand for my expenses were large just lately. I am glad you are writing to Mrs. Ashton for it has been just like home there, managed to get to see them last week-end during my 48 hr. pass which I am fortuneate [sic] to get every fortnight. Closing now, hoping to hear from you again soon. Regards to Dennis & Bill All my love

Mentions that her letters were probably being held up by censor. Writes he was enjoying the privileges of rank but was not too keen on his course. Sorry that he was not able to come home to see them all. Asks her to let him know if they want anything which he could get after Christmas when he had some cash. Was glad that she had written to his Canadian friends who he saw last weekend on his latest 48 hour pass.

My dear Mum,
Thanks for your cable also the one from Dennis, I arrived at Port Albert yesterday and am just settling down to the new life. Will be here for Christmas as the course is now 14 weeks, identical to the last one, only more condensed, and of course the principles of lecturing. I had a very exciting time in New York, visited practically everywhere, was there for a week before returning to Toronto. Had the remainder of my leave at Mrs. Ashtons and had a wonderful time, they are simply swell. At present I am billeted out at a hotel in Goderich with a few of the chaps I have teamed up with, and we will be here until there is enough room for us at camp, the winter is just about here so I can see us snowed in for a few weeks. We are fortunate enough to get a 48 hour pass every two weeks so will utilize this with a trip up to Toronto for this is a wilderness compared with the last station. Hoping your [sic] are all well and most disappointed that I shall be unable to celebrate this Christmas with you, hope to hear from you soon. All my best to Dennis and Bill Love. Reg xxxxxx

My dear Mum,
I trust you received my cables and I expect you are just as thrilled about my promotion as I am myself, of course I should have loved to have come home to see you all but I am sure you will be happy that I am stopping out here although disappointed that we shall have to put off my party to some future occasion. At present I am on two weeks leave spending this week-end at Mrs. Ashtons they were very pleased and excited about the good news and they thoroughly enjoyed the graduation ceremony on Thursday. I wish you could have been there, what an event, L.A.C. Thursday, sergeant for 24 hours then Pilot Officer. I am off to New York on Tuesday for a few days as soon as I get fitted out with my uniform. What a time I had on Saturday shopping. I report to my new station on the 17th on a six week instructors course, from there being sent to another school to instruct, hoping that it will be south for I don’t think I shall like the winter which is gradually settling in. Well, Mum, I made the grade and feel very happy and pleased, I am sure you feel very proud now, all my love to you and all the best to Dennis and Bill

My dear Mum,
I will try this new air mail letter to see if it arrives any quicker than the airgraphs, I received a letter from you today dated 31st Oct. and the funny thing is I had one from you last week of the 5th Nov. so this last shipment must have been held up somewhere, I also had another letter from England and that was worse still 7th Oct. – two months to get here so the news is ancient by now. Well how are you, preparing for Christmas – had any snow yet? it is inches thick here, but the worse is to come yet. I have been lucky up to now, no colds yet, so dont [sic] worry I shall look after myself. I had a letter from Mrs. Aston at the beginning of the week and the girls are both in bed with severe colds, wait until I see them this week-end, telling me about the Canadian weather! You were asking how close I was to Toronto, well it only took a half hour from Malton, it now takes six hours so you can imagine how far away I am. I can only get up there every two weeks now during my 48 hr. pass so I miss that other week-end with them, but we will make up for it at Xmas 5 days leave, we are lucky too, for we are the only course in the camp to get off then. Well my photographs should be well on the way now, I hope you like them, let me know when they arrive also little Evelyns [sic] present, just in case I have to replace them. And don’t worry about gifts for me and I will see that Mrs Ashton gets one, am sending you some stockings next week. I am afraid all my presents will arrive at odd times, I haven’t much time for shopping and there is so many things I should like to send you that I don’t know where to begin, so anything you need particularly, just give me the word. Well things are much the same around camp, plenty of work as usual, and on top of it all, we have lectures to prepare
[page break]

We give these to our own class and generally last for about 20 minutes, so you see there is plenty to do, even after class, and once again we have commenced exams. No wonder I simply dash away as soon as that leave comes along. Have you decided on going away at Xmas? well have a good time no matter what you do I will be thinking of you all, give my

Greetings to all around and my best wishes to Dennis and Bill. Keep smiling, all my love to you
