Charles Turner's flying log book
C F Turner’s air gunner’s log book covering the period from 27 December 1943 to 4 April 1945. Detailing his flying training and operations flown as rear air gunner. He was stationed at SAAF Port Alfred (43 Air School), RAF Little Horwood and RAF Wing (26 OTU), RAF Chedburgh (1653 HCU), RAF Feltwell (3 LFS), RAF Tuddenham and RAF Stradishall (186 Squadron). Aircraft flown in were Hampden, Anson, Northrop, Audax, Wellington, Stirling and Lancaster.
He flew a total of 5 night operations and 27 day operations with 186 Squadron, a total of 32 plus one recall. Targets were Essen, Cologne, Homberg, Solingen, Bottrop, Rur Dam Schwammenauel, Duisburg, Osterfeld, Siegen, Trier, Saint-Vith, Mönchengladbach, Juvincourt-et-Damary, Saarbrücken, Wanne Eichel, Gelsenkirchen, Buer, Dortmund, Hattingen, Bocholt, Neuss, Sterkrade, Dessau and Merseburg. His pilot on operations was Flight Lieutenant Field DFC. It also contains a newspaper clipping 'Cologne bridge is out'.

Reg Lane’s Royal Canadian Air Force pilot’s flying log book
R J Lane’s RCAF Pilot’s Flying Log Book from 10th February 1941 to 2nd September 1956, detailing his training, operations and post war duties as a pilot. No flying is recorded in 1945, 1946, 1947, 1953, 1954 or 1955.
He was stationed at RCAF Station Sea Island (No. 8 Elementary Flying Training School), RCAF Station Dauphin (No. 10 Service Flying Training School), RAF Abingdon (No. 10 OTU), RAF Linton on Ouse (35 Squadron), RAF Driffield (1502 Beam Approach Training Flight), RAF Gransden Lodge (Path Finder Force Navigation Training Unit, 405 Squadron), RCAF Station Rockliffe (Air Force HQ) and RCAF Station Edmonton.
Aircraft in which flown: Tiger Moth, Harvard, Whitley III, Whitley IV, Halifax I, Halifax II, Oxford, Lancaster I, Lancaster III, Lancaster VI, Mosquito IV, Liberator I. Expeditor, Beechcraft, B-29, Goose, North Star, Dakota III, Dakota IV and Mitchell.
Records a total of 64 operations (63 night, one day). Targets in Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy and Norway were: Berlin, Bonn, Bremen, Brest, Caen, Cologne, Duisburg, Dusseldorf, Emden, Essen, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Kiel, Magdeburg, Mannheim, Milan, Munich, Nuremberg, Nurnberg, Osnabruck, Paris, Pilsen, Saarbruck, Schweinfurt, Stuttgart, Trondheim, Turin, Vegesack and Warnemunde. His first or second pilots on operations were Sergeant Williams, Sergeant Hammond, Pilot Officer Field, Pilot Officer Dobson, Sergeant Murray and Sergeant John. Records four flights with Flight Lieutenant G. L. Cheshire in October 1941. Post war flights include “FIRST RCAF ROUND - THE - WORLD FLIGHT” January and February 1950.

JE Hanson flying log book
Flying log book for J E Hanson, wireless operator/air gunner, covering the period from 3 January 1939 to 1 October 1942. Detailing his flying training and operations flown. He was stationed at RAF Finnningley, RAF Upper Heyford, RAF Lindholme, RAF Warmwell, RAF Coningsby, RAF Scampton, RAF Waddington, RAF Boscombe Down, RAF Nutts Corner and RAF Syerston. Aircraft flown in were Tiger Moth, Wellesley, Anson, Whitley, Hampden Hereford, Blenheim, Battle, Lysander, Lancaster, Manchester, Hind, Botha and Wellington. He trained with 76 Squadron which became 16 Operational Training Unit. He flew a total of 46 operations. 29 with 50 Squadron, 3 with 44 Squadron and 14 with 61 Squadron. The aircraft crashed on take off on their 47 operation, with the loss of all crew when the dinghy deployed fouling the tail plane. Targets were Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Lorient, Bremen, Brest, Cuxhaven, St Nazaire, Wilhelmshaven, Dunkirk, Hannover, Kiel, La Rochelle, Copenhagen, Bordeaux, Essen, Saarbrucken, Atlantic Ocean, Kassel, Konigsberg, Wismar and mine laying. The log book also contains photographs of him and aircraft. His pilots on operations were Pilot Officer Paramore, Pilot Officer Woodward, Squadron Leader Weston DFC and Squadron Leader Burnett.

Pilots flying log book two, for R E Wannop, covering the period from 22 September 1943 to 28 February 1945. Detailing his instructor duties, flying training and operations flown. He was stationed at RAF Sealand, RAF Calveley, RAF Cranage, RAF Worksop, RAF Sandtoft and RAF Tuddenham. Aircraft flown were, DH82, Oxford, Anson, Wellington, Halifax and Lancaster. He flew a total of 11 Operations with 90 Squadron, 7 Daylight and 4 night operations. Targets were, Ludwigshaven, Nuess, Krefeld, Saarbrucken, Duisburg, Cologne, Dortmund, Dresden, Kamen and Gelsenkirchen. The log book also contains a copy of his citation for his DFC.

Targets were Pilsen, Berlin, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Schweinfurt, Augsburg, Le Mans, Frankfurt, Essen, Nantes, Haines St Pierre, Calais, Duisburg, Dortmund, Aachen, Rennes, Angers, Foret de Cerise, Cambrai, Lens, Renescure, Wizernes, Coquereaux, Nucourt, Vaires, Cagney, Courtrai, Fervay, Falaise, Tirlemont, Stettin, Russelsheim, Kiel, Soesterburg, Le Havre, Domburg, Gelsenkirchen, Cap Gris Nez, Sterkrade, Bergen, Saarbrucken, and Bari. He also flew 6 operation Dodge and a goodwill tour of the USA with 35 squadron. Saarbrucken
A vertical aerial photograph of the centre of Saarbrücken, orientated with south-east at the top and clearly showing the River Saar. Cloud and/or smoke covers parts of the town but residential areas, the railway and other details can still be seen. The railway enters the image at the left edge and can be seen crossing the river before dividing to run east and west. At the bottom edge, to the left of the river, is a large market area while the central part of the image, to the right of the river, covers large residential areas. There are no easily recognisable buildings though Saarbrücken Castle can be seen to the right of the river, adjacent to the second bridge from the top.
