Coblenz
A vertical aerial photograph of Koblenz in early 1945 showing widespread damage to buildings with large areas completely destroyed. Bomb craters can be seen in several places. A railway marshalling yard is to centre left and the railway lines then curve to the top and bottom of the image. The two bridges crossing the Moselle River are the Neue Moselbrücke road bridge, which appears undamaged at this time and to its right, the railway bridge.
Captioned 'Coblenz'.

Kassel and a Bridge near Coblenz
On the left an oblique aerial photograph of the River Rhine with a destroyed steel girder bridge with both spans collapsed into the river. This is the Raiffeisen road bridge. The Rhine which is running left to right, is split at this point into two channels. The spit of land runs from mid left to bottom right. On the far bank are a few buildings including a factory with a chimney. On the near bank, level with the end of the spit is a colonnaded tower, the Pegelturm. In the middle distance are some small built up areas beyond which is open countryside. Electricity pylons run from right to left three quarters way up. Captioned 'Bridge near Coblenz'.
On the right an oblique aerial photograph of a badly damaged town on a river, This is Kassel looking east, with the River Fulda zigzaging from middle left toward the bottom right. On the nearside buildings have mostly been reduced to rubble with just some standing walls. On the right is part of a multistory building. A road runs from bottom centre up through a roundabout to the river where the road bridge has totally disappeared. This is the Fuldabrucke bridge. Towards the left end of the river is a weir, the Staustufe Kassel, and lock with another intact bow string girder bridge beyond, the Ysenburgstrasse. On the far bank are more blocks of destroyed buildings and industrial areas. Beyond is open countryside with a few built up areas including various chimneys towards the top. Captioned 'Kassel'.
