Le Havre
Reconnaissance photograph showing a damaged port area with a basin orientated left right with a pier in the centre. Caption 'Le Havre K2491(IMMED)'. On the reverse 'Date 11.7.44, Unit WS, Neg No. G103, 51:53'. Dock area has been heavily bombed, with numerous bomb craters and damaged buildings. Breakwater to bottom right has been damaged and breached midway along, with basin to its left partially drained. At least five boats or lighters can be seen beached or partially submerged in this basin. At the far end of the central pier, the Le Havre E- Boat pens form a rectangular concrete structure into the basin below. Above the pier, in the second basin up, a submerged structure lies at an angle to the surrounding docks. This has a jetty leading to it and a small vessel alongside. Three larger vessels are in the upper dock off this basin. The channel at the top of the photograph is the Canal De Tancarville. Three lighters or other small vessels are alongside the dock towards the right. A plume of smoke is rising from the dockside to the top left.
