374 items concerning Group Captain Leonard Cheshire VC, OM, DSO & Two Bars, DFC. Collection consists of photographs of people, vehicles, places, aircraft, weapons and targets; documents including, private and service letters, signals, telegrams, intelligence reports, crew lists and official documents. Cheshire served on 102 and 35 Squadrons and commanded 76 and 617 Squadrons. The collection includes details of 617 Squadron's precision bombing operations. Also included are two sub-collections: one containing 21 photographs of Tinian and Saipan, the other consisting of 37 audio tapes of speeches given by Cheshire after the war.
The collection has been licenced to the IBCC Digital Archive by The Leonard Cheshire Archive and catalogued by Nigel Huckins.

Reconnaissance photograph showing a damaged port area with a basin orientated left right with a pier in the centre. Caption 'Le Havre K2491(IMMED)'. On the reverse 'Date 11.7.44, Unit WS, Neg No. G103, 51:53'. Dock area has been heavily bombed, with numerous bomb craters and damaged buildings. Breakwater to bottom right has been damaged and breached midway along, with basin to its left partially drained. At least five boats or lighters can be seen beached or partially submerged in this basin. At the far end of the central pier, the Le Havre E- Boat pens form a rectangular concrete structure into the basin below. Above the pier, in the second basin up, a submerged structure lies at an angle to the surrounding docks. This has a jetty leading to it and a small vessel alongside. Three larger vessels are in the upper dock off this basin. The channel at the top of the photograph is the Canal De Tancarville. Three lighters or other small vessels are alongside the dock towards the right. A plume of smoke is rising from the dockside to the top left.
