Collection concerns Pilot Officer Robert Venter Jubb DFC (b 1922, 426609 Royal Australian Air Force), a Halifax pilot he flew operations on 76 and 462 Squadrons between July and November 1944 when his aircraft was shot down. He evaded capture but remainder of crew were caught and became prisoners of war. Collection contains his log book, newspaper cuttings, photographs (including his target photographs), documents, correspondence and operational route maps.

Reconnaissance photograph at low level of goods yard with significant bomb damage with craters and destroyed buildings throughout. A drained canal runs top to bottom with large barge aground against quay and another smaller pair tied together at top. Destroyed railway lines, with sidings off to the left, are alongside canal. Side by side reconnaissance photographs showing an industrial area with buildings, roads and towards the right, some railway sidings. This industrial area is orientated from lower left to top right. Chimney smoke is seen on the left hand photograph. The right hand photograph, of the same location, shows most areas damaged or destroyed, with many of the buildings without roofs. Two oil tanks centre bottom are damaged and the railway sidings are covered in bomb craters. Explanatory text below 'LEUNA (Merseburg) has been attacked several times but was in partial operation at the date of the B.C attack on the night 14/15 January 1945, On the right is the photograph taken on the 14th February showing the tremendous damage done (compare with the same area before the attack on the plant started). The plant is totally inactive and likely to remain so for a considerable period. H.Q.B.C Air Staff int P.T. 438-9'. Submitted with description 'Before and after" reconnaissance photographs of Leuna synthetic oil plant, Merseburg. Description

Vertical aerial photographs showing on the left an industrial area with roads and buildings and on the right the same area with most of the structures destroyed. Explanatory text underneath 'Zeitz. The left hand photograph shows this synthetic oil plant before it had been attacked. During 1944, it was attacked five times by the 8th U.S.A.A.F and severely damaged. By 17th December, 1944, however, structural repairs to the majority of the buildings had been almost completed. On 16/17 January 1945, the plant was attacked by Bomber Command and reduced to the state shown in the right hand photograph'. Submitted with description '"Before and after" reconnaissance photographs of Braunkohle-Benzin synthetic oil plant at Zeitz, showing damage caused by RAF Bomber Command operation on 16-17/01/1944'.

Top - oblique aerial photograph of Bremen port with river Weser to the left running bottom to top with dock to the right. Pier in between has extensive railway sidings to the left, warehouses in the middle are mainly without roofs but cleared of debris. Dock cranes line the right hand side of this pier. In the distance the river veers to the left with many industrial buildings, chimneys, and cranes visible on the right hand bank. Left bank appears flat and featureless farmland.
