AIR MINISTRY
(Casualty Branch),
73-77, OXFORD STREET, W.1.
Your Ref: P.41509/1/P.4.(B.6)
15th August 1944
Madam,
I am directed to refer to your letter of the 11th August 1944 regarding your husband, Acting Squadron Leader C. H. Wilson, D.F.C., and to state in reply to your enquiries that as the Department has no information of any kind regarding any member of the crew it is impossible to offer a suggestion as to whether or not he has escaped and is in hiding.
No definite information is available as to whether our husband’s aircraft was on Path Finding duty but an enquiry is being forwarded to the Officer Commanding his Squadron who may be in a position to give this information. The reply will be communicated to you as soon as it is received.
It is regretted that the Department is unable to say how many members of the ninety four aircraft who failed to return from operational duties on the night of 30th/31st March have been reported missing as the research entailed in obtaining this information would be very considerable indeed. I am to add, however, that no information has been received regarding any member of your husband’s crew [handwritten] who are therefore all classified as missing. [/handwritten]
I am, Madam, Your obedient Servant,
[signed] R W Livingstone[?] [/signed]
For Director of Personal Services.
Mrs. C. H. Wilson,
2 Kensington Grove,
Denton,
MANCHESTER.
