5th Sept 44.
My dear Mrs Waring,
I am sending you a letter which was given to me by a woman when we entered the town of Fécamp a few days ago. I hope it will do something to re-assure you in your worries. The woman disappeared in the crowd before I could ask any questions.
I hope you soon have very good news – the end of it all and your husband’s safe return.
Yours truly,

LINCOLNSHIRE.
England.
Our air craft has been touched by a night fighter. It has fallen down in fore, but I had time to jump off in parachute. I got several important blisters and burns, but a French Doctor tended me with great skilfulness – I hope to be soon in good health – I am now a prisoner, not for a long time – My watch, ring, personal papers and money are in good place. I am to sleep in a hospital at about 30 miles from Havre.
Cheeri-o and good luck,
Love to everybody,
[underlined] Robert Wareing. [/underlined]
