THURSDAY. [double underlined] 9 P.M. [/double underlined]
Dear Rowena.
I couldn't wait till later in the week to write to you, I hope you don't mind.
It did enter my head to call round tonight, but I thought you would think I had an awful cheek, I sincerely hope you don't mind too much, about me approaching you today, but I couldn't help myself when I knew you lived in Ramsgate, when I saw you before, I did a bit of deep thinking but imagined you lived in London, far out of my way.
Gee! dear, you have no idea how happy I am, it's been my lucky day today. Last night I was on my way to Air Ministry for my final medical board before being accepted for the Peace time RAF. I was talked into going to a party, thrown

by one of my pals, and told to go on the 5.A.M. train this morning, rather than be a poor sport, I agreed, Gosh! that was the worst mistake I could have made. This morning I was called at 4.30 AM. still a bit tipsy, and what a hangover, the worst I have ever experienced, rolled onto the train without any B'fast, I felt terrible, was convinced they would fail me at the Medical Board, and then be kicked out.
Well strange as it may seem I passed A1B, that's the highest standard in the world, I am greatly pleased at the result, would have been really overjoyed if I had not had such a Hangover all day. I am going to bed after completing this letter, as I am flying on test flight tomorrow, getting the aircraft ready

for Monday morning, we are taking off for Germany at 0830 AM. Monday morning. I am duty officer at Manston all day Sunday, so won't be able to leave camp but if I could only see you Saturday, even for an hour or so Gee would make me feel wizard, anyway would you please give me a ring sometime on Saturday about 7.P.M. the telephone number is on the letter, ask the RAF exchange for ext. 22. or just ask for the officers mess. ring [deleted] in [/deleted] me in case. I shall be back from Germany on the following Friday that's a week tomorrow, hope you will be home that night, when you ring up tell me what size stockings you take, I might be able to get some in Germany with a bit of luck. By the way, I like your first name, I think it originated from Wales, did you say they also called you Gwen? I am called Alec at home, not George, they don't like that name very much, so take your pick

[underlined] 4. [/underlined]
How long have you been on your present job? and do you care for the work? what are the hours like?
For myself I am very fond of the life in the RAF. it pays good money and life is pretty easy now the war is over, have a nice room to myself here, and have just bought a new portable radio, makes it quite homely, plenty of furniture etc. I like to get out at nights though, because one gets fed up with the same old faces round the Bar etc.
Am hoping to get a second hand car this week-end, it makes all the difference I sold my last one in June before going overseas, and feel lost without one. What do you do with your evenings as a rule? by the way I am not much good at Dancing still in the learner stage, all I need is a good partner, then I will be on the straight then, can you skate? Swim etc. I am dying to meet you we can compare notes etc.

For myself I am 25 1/2 years. and single with no ties, how about you, I should think you have a steady boy friend tucked away somewhere haven't you? Still maybe I shouldn't ask questions like that, please forgive me if I said the wrong thing.
Well my dear I will close now, don't forget to give me a ring Saturday night if you can make it, just in case you don't ring, when you answer this letter send it to Manston, will be waiting when I return from Germany.
Chin Chin.
Love.

Darling,
I have just arrived in my room after leaving you tonight.
I am walking on air, Boy oh Boy, I feel marvelous [sic], I don't think I will sleep a wink tonight.
As soon as I arrived in the mess, I went chasing round, and I found Ernie, in bed, so I got talking to him he wasn't asleep. I explained how necessary it was that I get out tomorrow night (So he's promised to stand by for me from 7 - 12 P.M. it's wizard, I can't wait till tomorrow to see you, although you won't receive

this letter till Monday morning, I hope you get it before you leave for work! I shall be on my way to Germany, by the time you are reading it, if you see a Dakota aircraft flying over your house at about 9.40 AM. that will be us, will get John to fly over the harbour on our way across –.
Look darling, I have been thinking, rather than risk going to Singapore, there's always that chance I don't get the Hendon job, I will ask he C.O tomorrow lunch time, if I can stay at Manston on this same job, Examining. I was fed up, but now, will explain the
[page break]
[underlined] 3. [/underlined]
the [sic] reason for wanting to stay. I can't risk it, I want to be with you and being overseas away from you would be asking too much.
Anyway, I will be talking it over with you tomorrow night, hope you think it's the best move to make
For once in my life, I have found someone who means more to me than myself, in the past there's only been myself to consider, but now, I shall be always considering you, when I am fed up with the job or anything I will just have to think about you and then I will stick at it, without a grumble or anything, it will be marvelous if the C.O. can [indecipherable word] the posting, with that little car, I will be laughing, if I have a permanent post here.
[page break]
[underlined] 4 [/underlined]
it will still mean I shall be away most weeks from Manston, but we always fly back for Saturday and Sunday and usually have a full week here about once a month still that's Wizard don't you think!!!
Darling you have no idea what a state I am in tonight, I always thought it was a load of tripe about meeting the right one and all that, well it's happened I have fallen that's certain, have never felt like this in my whole life before, and it just shows, I could never have written a letter like this straight off the reel at this time of night without the slightest hesitation, don't think that I have spelt that right.
It's madness to think I have only known you just two days, I have known you years

I never was any good at writing letters yet here I am scribbling away, the reason why I think I have known you all these years, is that you are the girl I have always wanted, and knew how she would be, if and when she came along, and I met her on a train, that's a queer place to meet your future wife, but it makes it all the more unusual, don't you think? Roll on tomorrow, I can't wait till I see you, I tried to ring up Mrs Lofthouse tonight that's this lady who has been like a Mother, and Guardian to me, to tell her about the most wonderful girl in the world.
I didn't want to leave you tonight
[page break]
[underlined] 6. [/underlined]
It's happened alright, I promise you, that you need not worry about me ever going off the rails after another girl, they have ceased to exist, honestly from the bottom of my heart, am not interested, all I want is you always. I want to talk over thousands of things with you, oh gee, have I ever got it bad!!! I can't believe it, the way things have worked out, it's always seemed impossible, yet its true.
What a strange and beutiful [sic] thing life is, it has its ups and downs, but Gee! it can be wonderful, especially if you have the right partner.
Well Darling I will close now, as it's getting a bit chilly, it's now 1.20 A.M. and I could go on writing to you for hours. will close now. God Bless you
All my love

I thought I would drop you a few lines before going to bed, I arrived here at about 12.30 AM. after quite a nice easy flight.
I started work straight after lunch, and finished about 4.30 P.M. went to my bed and slept for two hours, straight off the Bat. When I woke up I had a wash and went down to Dinner, I never slept more than a couple of hours again last night. Darling I love you more than anyone or anything else in the whole world your [sic] my whole life, I miss you, oh God you'll never know how much

Curly my navigator, has asked you and I around to his place, he lives out in Ramsgate, and he tells me there will be an unfurnished flat going the one below, the one he now posesses, [sic] he's going to see about it for me immediately it becomes vacant!
Excuse the writing darling I am a bit tipsy, but believe me, when the Boys get together it always happens. They are a good crowd this team I fly with all married except myself and Ernie, and I am not going to be single for long (I HOPE)

Tonight I bought you two bottles of Perfume, and 2 lipsticks made in France, I hope they will be O.K, they are the best here although not up to much. ( Evening in Paris stuff! Have fixed up about some stockings for you, am going to Berlin tomorrow although, I have to do some work down there, I am only interested in getting down town about these stockings will do my best to get reasonably light shades, am also after some cut glass ware for our bottom drawer. My writing's awful isn't it, I love you darling, I couldn't write letters like this, at this time of night if I didn't, normally I go to bed and sleep it off, but now, I couldn't sleep without dropping you a few

lines.
Curly is paying £4 a week for a fully furnished flat in Ramsgate, and tells me, I will draw £14 aweek [sic] minus the income tax, so we ought to be able to fix up something, and still save money, we have got to get somewhere to live and quickly, I won't be able to wait for you too long, mind you I will wait for ever if need be, please Darling, don't let’s wait too long I need you, and miss you awfully! I know it seem's [sic] crazy, but there it is, it's not a week yet since I met you although, I have known you all my life, and want you to be my partner, and guiding light for the rest of my life. We'll be happy I know it can feel it, never in my 28 1/2 years have I felt like this, I used to scorn people for always talking and thinking

There's some damn nice chairs and things over here, was thinking of purchasing some or something, once we get a place of our own, will get down to it, and everywhere I go, go scouting around looking for bits and pieces. Well Darling will close now, as Ernie is moaning about the light being on.
