627 Squadron was formed in November 1943 at RAF Oakington equipped with Mosquitos as part of 8 Group. It operated in both a conventional bomber role as part of the Light Night Striking Force but also in a Pathfinder marker role. In April 1944 it was transferred to 5 Group at RAF Woodhall Spa as a marker squadron.

635 Squadron was formed in March 1944 at RAF Downham Market as part of 8 Group. It operated as a Pathfinder unit and was equipped with Lancasters. It was the only squadron to use the Lancaster Mk 6 operationally which it did in trials from August to October 1944; only nine such aircraft were built. In May 1945 the squadron took part in Operation Manna to drop food to the Dutch as well as Operation Exodus to repatriate ex-prisoners of war.

692 Squadron was formed at RAF Graveley with Mosquitos in January 1944 as part of 8 Group. It was part of the Light Night Striking Force and the first Mosquito squadron to carry the 4,000lb bomb. The squadron transferred to RAF Gransden Lodge in July 1944 where it stayed until the end of the war.
