Valenciennes, Edward King's 16th operation of his tour
Five items, Edward's brief description of the operation their bomb aimer was sick so took replacement, quiet trip. Edward's navigation plot, and an indication of the H2S plot when over the target. There are two press clippings, the first has a caption 'The result of A.E.A.F. attacks on the railway centre at Valenciennes'. This refers to the Allied tactical air forces damage to railway engine shed. The upper part of the photograph clearly shows the two large turntables, the round house where the locomotives are housed between trips and the storage tracks occupied by waggons, all badly damaged. Across the centre of the photograph is a canal with a collapsed bridge, below that are large factories again showing signs of bomb damage.
A second cutting shows Munich, no caption, signs of some bomb damage.

Two press cuttings. The first is captioned 'Frenchman waves to allied reconnaissance plane' and shows a road with two figures, one of them waving, the road running through small farmed fields, trees and more fields in the background.
The second is captioned 'The enemy's railway bridges continue to be destroyed'. There are two images the first shows a severely damaged railway viaduct at Beaugency, in a rural area with many craters created by the US 9th Air Force.

Two disturbing incidents
Incident 1. Describes ground loop on engine run up for take off. Pilot subsequently posted away.
Incident 2. Describes watching another aircraft taking off when its flaps fell down and bomb doors opening as it reached take off speed on the runway. Manage take off but took airfield fences with it and subsequently landed wheels up. Problem ascribed to hydraulic problem due to flak damage. Goes on to describe an incident with his own aircraft where a piece of flak shrapnel ricocheted through aircraft causing several different things to happen to mid upper gunner, pilot and the aircraft. Concludes with description of a fire arms incident he was involved in at Moreton-in-the-Marsh where he was an instructor at a later date.
