John writes wishing his mother and Joy happy birthday. He has not had much mail. He is playing hockey, studying Spanish and hoping to be home by Christmas.
Bernard writes that he is pleased John is OK and thanks her for the cigarettes.

John writes that he has received letters and 1000 cigarettes and three pounds of tobacco. Some of the packets had no card so he does not know who sent them. He also received a parcel from his parents and asks for pyjamas.
John writes that he has only received one letter. He has watched the same play three times this week, also studying Spanish and playing hockey and bridge.
John has received two letters from his parents and three letters from others. One sentence has been blacked out by the censor. He has had a couple of parcels.

John writes that he has had no letters for about a month but he has had a couple of book parcels. His studies continue. He has met a friend from Minehead, in the camp. He is going to a concert that evening.
John writes that Christmas was good. They had beer and home made wine plus food parcels. He continues to study Spanish and Science. He asks for toothpaste and sunglasses as well as cigarettes.
