Sinking the Tirpitz

Using Tallboy bombs,  29 specially modified   Lancasters from 9 Squadron and 617 Squadron sank the the Battleship Tirpitz in Tromso Fjord 12 November 1944. 82 men trapped in the upturned hull were rescued but around 1,000 men on board died. 'All aircraft landed without incident with the exception of one, of which the crew is known to be safe.'
