One of the first Bomber Command casualties of the war

Flight Sergeant Albion John Turner (1911 - 1939, 561939 Royal Air Force) joined the RAF as an apprentice in 1927. After service as a fitter, he re-mustered as a pilot in 1935. He flew Vickers Victoria and Valentias with 216 Squadron and Handley Page Heyfords with 9 Squadron before converting to Wellingtons in February 1939. The day after war was declared, his aircraft was part of a force of 14 Wellingtons dispatched to attack shipping in Brunsbuttel Harbour at the mouth of the Kiel Canal. He died with the rest of his crew when his aircraft was shot down by ground fire 4 September 1939.
