THE HACKNEY GAZETTE AND NORTH LONDON ADVERTISER
Airman’s Wedding At Stamford Hill
A pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Stamford Hill, on Saturday afternoon. The bridal couple were Flight-sergeant Kenneth Pope, of the R.A.F., eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Pope, of 101 Kyverdale-road, Stamford Hill, and Miss Muriel Beswick, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.P. Beswick, of 73 Castlewood-road, Stamford Hill. The Rev. H.F. Datchler, vicar of St. Thomas’s, Clapton Common and the Rev. Noel Brown, vicar of St. Bartholomew’s, officiated, and Mr. H. Speakman presided at the organ. The service was choral.
The bride, who was given away by her father, was charmingly gowned in heavy white crepe cloque, with a long train. Orange blossoms adorned her head-dress, and she carried a shower bouquet of deep red carnations and white heather. The four bridesmaids comprised three sisters of the bridegroom – the Misses Doreen, Gladys and Lily Pope – and Mrs. Reed, sister of the bride. Two of the bridesmaids wore pink rayon, and two blue rayon. They had orchid head-dresses, and carried orchid-trimmed muffs. Mr. Robert Beswick, of Southgate, brother of the bride, acted as best man.
Following the ceremony, a wedding breakfast was served at the hall of the local branch of the British Legion, Upper Clapton-road, of which the bride’s father is an ex-president. There were numerous guests.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Pope, who were the recipients of many acceptable wedding gifts, afterwards left for their honeymoon, which is being spent at Bournemouth. The bride travelled in a navy pin-stripe suit.
