Dear Unk etc.
Your staggering epistle to hand. I again extend the usual thanks for “The Royal”, the letter, and the P.O. to Alf Barnes I send thanks and the hope that blight settles all round his garden but never climbs in. You might extend my thanks to the sports committee for the cash which, I might add, came like dew to a parched rose. A few nights in town does more to demoralise the brave boys of Bomber Command than all the shit Adolf can order his stooges to aim

at us. The main trouble is always a shortage of wherewithal and the P.O. was, as I have before mentioned.
So Archie has decided that a military career is not in his line. Well I don’t blame him, it is a mugs [sic]game and if only I could get somebody to do my bit I think I’d join him. The trouble would have been have Arch ever got in. They would have marked him absent from every parade and then had to charge practically nothing with not being there. As for Charlie, if he is managing to fail to pass any tests it can only mean that he at least is beginning to learn his way about. The more courses he passes, the more they will want him to work.

This letter has been delayed again for two reasons. The skipper put the kite down a bit heavy on Saturday and split the back of my head so I have been sick for two days. The other reason is just general laziness, in any case there is sweet F.A. to write about. We are practically finished our conversion to the heavies and should be moving off from here any day now. Then, my friends, I should really begin to go to town.
You might wish Jack Denny luck for his aspirations and desires. As for the rest of the members of Mr. Sheens [sic] Sunday school I take it that their aspirations are all concerned with fine weather for their holidays and bags

of sunburn.
The brevity of this note will no doubt disappoint you but it is just one of the hardships of war. Remember me to all.
All the best.
[underlined] Pete [/underlined].
P.S. I’ve written to [underlined] Wyn. [/underlined]
