98 Squadron [concept]


98 Squadron was part of 2 Group and equipped with Battles in 1939. It was originally a training squadron and was not operational despite being located in France between April and June 1940. The squadron was transferred to Coastal Command and sent to Iceland where it was disbanded in 1941. It reformed in September 1942 at RAF West Raynham again as part of 2 Group but now flying B-25s which it operated until the end of the war. From October 1944 it was located on the continent, first in Belgium and then in Germany.
It was stationed at: RAF Hucknall, RAF Scampton, RAF Finningley, RAF Gatwick, RAF West Raynham, RAF Foulsham, RAF Swanton Morley and RAF Dunsfold.
Aircraft flown included: Battle and B-25
Wartime losses: 122
