Description

Pilots flying log book for E M Gearon, covering the period from 2 April 1943 to 15 October 1953. Detailing his flying training, operations flown, instructor duties and post war flying duties. He was stationed at 4 British Flying Training School USAAC Falcon Field, 11 Pilots Advanced Flying Unit RAF Wrexham, 10 Operational Training Unit RAF Stanton Harcourt, 1658 Heavy Conversion Unit RAF Riccall, 78 Squadron RAF Breighton and RAF Almaza. Aircraft flown in were PT17a Stearman, AT6a Harvard, Oxford, Whitley, Halifax and C-47 Dakota. He flew a total of 32 operations with 78 Squadron 16 daylight and 16 night. Targets were Gelsenkirchen, Jülich, Munster, Sterkrade, Hagen, Soest, Osnabruck, Duisburg, Opladen, Koblenz, Saarbrucken, Magdeburg, Wanne-Eickel, Goch, Chemnitz, Bohlen, Mainz, Cologne, Kamen, Hemmingstedt, Essen, Dortmund, Homberg, Witten, Dulmen, Stade, Bayreuth, Heligoland and Wangerooge. Following the war he flew with 9 Reserve Flying School.
