David Vandervord’s Royal Air Force Pilots Flying Log Book from 22nd July 1939 until 14th May 1941. Initial pilot training at No. 34 Elementary and Reserve Flying Training School, No. 7 Elementary Flying Training School, 12 Service Flying Training School, 15 Operational Training Unit. Operational posting to 218 Squadron.

Served at RAF Southend, RAF Desford, RAF Grantham, RAF Harwell, RAF Marham.

Aircraft flown were Tiger Moth, Anson, Wellington.

He flew 12 night bombing operations with 218 Squadron as second pilot. His targets were Boulogne, Rotterdam, Hannover, Bremen, Brest, Berlin, Hamburg, the Scharnhorst, Mannheim.
His pilots were Flying Officer Anstey, Flying Officer Agar and Sergeant McNeil.
His aircraft force landed in England after the operation on 11/12th February 1941. His aircraft was attacked by two Me110’s on the night of 13/14th March 1941 which result in a minor injury to himself.
