Dearest Ma,

My letters have been a bit irregular of late but I will make an effort to get back to the old system.

Croydon certainly seems to be getting a hammering at the moment, but you must always remember that we are doing exactly the same to them. In any case this intensive bombing will not bee [sic] possible in the winter months.

Life at Scampton is the same as ever with twice as much time off as [indecipherable word] which is a good thing.

Last night I went to the theatre in Lincoln and saw quite a good show. It is always very crowed [sic] and they must make a fortune [deleted] of [/deleted] out of it. It certainly makes a change from other entertainments.

I went to lunch with Johnnie on Sunday and had a very pleasant meal.

It was a bit of a rush to get back to camp again though, especially as I was due to play football that afternoon. Imagine playing after a big meal.

Will you please cash a cheque for me and put it in my savings (war). As you see, it is from the insurance company and is for a couple of quid.

I am still working on the bike by the way and soon it will be in fine fettle.

Take care of yourself and don’t get careless about taking cover,

Your [underlined] Very [/underlined] [underlined] loving [/underlined]
