RAF Liberator hit by bombs in mid-air
Description
Vertical aerial photograph of a Liberator with oily vapour streaming from one of the port engines which is also missing its propeller. A typewritten official description of how the aircraft was damaged is pasted to the reverse of the image. The description includes a quote from the mid-upper gunner, Pilot Officer Walter G Lewis. The reverse is also stamped with a date stamp indicating the photograph was passed for publication on 5 April 1945, an Imperial War Museum stamp and a letter 'R' in red ink. '70 Sqdn' is written in pencil on the reverse. Beneath the aircraft a coastline, roads and a few buildings can be seen.
