Description
Peter starts by recalling meeting a German air force officer who invited him and his family to Germany. He mentions a couple of films about Lancaster. He mentions he started on Hampdens and was then posted to 44 Squadron at RAF Waddington. He comments on his first operations and about RAF Waddington. He was then posted to 207 Squadron. He talks of being diverted on return from several operations. Comments on a unstated system. He relates some of his 36 operations that stood out and includes a detailed account of being attacked by fighter. He comments on development of corkscrew tactic along with allied fighters and mentions aircraft he flew. He recalls another story about being engaged by fighter and doing a poor landing on return. He continues with anecdotes concerning a heavy night landing and ground taxiing incident. Carries on with talk of his instructional tour on Manchester and Halifax, after completion of his operational flying. He was asked about incidents on Manchester. Then moves to 5LFS and eventually as a squadron instructor on 9 Squadron and carries on with an operation flown on 9 Squadron. He tells the story of a 12,000 lb bomb falling off a parked Lancaster. He talks about dropping 12,000 lb tallboy bombs and of an aircraft nearly dropping a bomb on another aircraft. He goes on to talk of flying the Lincoln and deployments to the Far East, after the war. Continues with description of post war activities flying Canberras. Includes a contemporary colour photograph of Peter Langdon.
