Starts with recounting the Glen Miller incident when having aborted an attack on Sagen due to bad weather, they jettisoned bombs in specified area of North Sea. This area coincided with the track of Glen Millers aircraft and someone claimed it was hit by jettisoned bombs. Continues with account of joining up in 1939 and his first posting as ground engineer to Newark. Covers subsequent posting to Sudan. Includes story of being taken to Cairo as he had experiences with typewriters to fix captured machine which he later realized was an enigma. On return to United Kingdom, flight engineer training at St Athan and then posting to fly Stirlings with 218 Squadron. Mentioned cancelled wedding on 6 June 1940 and taking glider to Normandy. Mentions minelaying and problems with the Stirling. Went to second tour with Lancaster with 75 Squadron. Relates tale of pilot being wounded and him having to fly for a time. Pilot was taken to hospital and not seen again. Describes new pilot and subsequent operations, flew 64 operations in all. Briefly describes post war work.
