Observer’s and Air Gunner’s flying log book for D Sparkes, air gunner, covering the period from 27 February 1944 to 7 April 1952. Detailing his flying training, operations flown and post war flying duties. He was stationed at 3 Air Gunner School RAF Castle Kennedy, 21 Operational Training Unit RAF Moreton-in-Marsh, 1666 Heavy Conversion Unit RAF Wombleton, 158 Squadron RAF Lissett, 230 Operational Conversion Unit RAF Scampton, 12 Squadron RAF Binbrook and RAF Shallufa. Aircraft flown in were Anson, Wellington, Halifax and Lincoln. He flew a total of 30 operations with 158 squadron, 10 daylight and 20 night. Targets were Sterkrade, Cleves, Bochum, Zouteland, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Gelsenkirchen, Julich, Munster, Essen, Hagen, Opladen, Koblenz, Ludwigshafen, Stuttgart, Mainz, Goch, Wanne Eickel, Bohlen, Chemnitz, Kamen and Heligoland. His pilot on operations was Squadron Leader Watson.
