Description

Pilots flying log book two, for R W Barlett, covering the period from 1 October 1943 to 8 February 1943 when he failed to return from operations. He was stationed at 34 Service Flying Training School RCAF Medicine Hat, 3 (Pilots) Advanced Flying Unit RAF South Cerney, 1545 beam Approach Training RAF Halfpenny Green, 29 Operational Training Unit RAF Bitteswell, 1654 Conversion Unit RAF Wigsley, 5 Lancaster Finishing School RAF Syerston, 61 Squadron RAF Skellingthorpe. Aircraft flown in were Harvard, Oxford, Wellington, Stirling, and Lancaster. He flew a total of 16 operations with 61 squadron, 2 Daylight and 14 Night. Targets were Ladbergen, Mittelland canal, Harburg, Duren, Heilbronn, Giessen, Heinbach, Munich, Gdynia, Politz, Houffalize, Merseburg and Brux. The log book contains a photo of his original grave.
