Title
Letter from Norman Mackie to Mr Cooper
Description
Norman is aware that Mr Copper is intending to write a book about the RAF Escaping Society and seeking stories from members. He describes being shot down on the 20th operation (Stuttgart) of his second tour with 83 Squadron. He recounts his adventures evading through France, eventually to Switzerland. After internment by the Swiss he worked for the air attaché (Air Commodore Freddy West) but, subsequently, escaped again through France to Spain. He concludes with some details of his bale out aided by his navigator, who also evaded to Spain, and of his remaining crew, two became prisoners of war and two were killed. He also mentions his investigations into the Luftwaffe crew who shot down his crew.
