Pilot’s flying log book for Flying Officer Ernest Lewis Ellis from 28 November 1941 to 23 February 1945 when he failed to return from his 23rd operation. Training with 19 EFTS and 12 SFTS in Canada. Posted to England in 1943 for further training with 16 EFTS, 20 AFU, 83 OTU, 1656 HCU and 1 LFS. Posted to 166 Squadron for operations.
Served at RAF Wilmslow, RAF Holme-on-Spalding Moor, RAF Coltishall, RAF Weston-on-the-Green, RAF Peplow, RAF Lindholme, RAF Hemswell, RAF Kirmington.
Aircraft flown were Tiger Moth, Cessna Crane, Fairy Battle, Anson, Bolingbroke, Lysander, Oxford, Wellington, Halifax, Lancaster.
He flew 23 operations with 166 Squadron to Gelsenkirchen, Duren, Freiburg, Dortmund, Karlsruhe, Merseburg, Essen, Ludwigshaven, Stettin, St Vith, Rheydt, Scholven-Buer, Osterfeld, Zeist, Troglitz, Duisburg, Wiesbaden, Kleve, Politz, Dresden, Pforzheim (from which he failed to return).
