Rowland Kethro’s Flying Log Book as an Air Gunner from 17 May 1942 until 4 August 1945. Training at No. 6 B&G School, 16 OTU and 1660 CU. Posted to 44 Squadron for operations. Further postings to 1654 CU, IAAS Manby, 5 LFS, CGS. Second tour of operations with 189 Squadron. Final posting at the end of the war to 9 Squadron.
Served at Mountain View in Canada, RAF Upper Heyford, RAF Swinderby, RAF Waddington, RAF Dunholme Lodge, RAF Manby, RAF Syerston, RAF Catfoss, RAF Bardney.
Aircraft flown were Nomad, Battle, Blenheim IV, Wellington III, Manchester, Lancaster.
Carried out 4 day and 22 night operations with 44 Squadron and 2 day and 3 night operations with 189 Squadron. Also two Operation Exodus and one Cook’s Tour flights. Targets included Nuremburg, St Nazaire, Essen, Duisburg, Pilsen, Spezia, Stettin, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Bochum, Cologne, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Milan, Peenemünde, Berlin, Mannheim, Würzburg, Bohlen, Flensburg. One operation has been annotated '(inverted flying)'.
His pilots for operations were Flying Officer Pilgrim (44 Squadron), and Squadron Leader Stephens and Flying Officer Van Cuylenburg (189 Squadron).
