Enquiries in Waltrop-Mengeder area & local residents gives burial place in Waltrop Cemetery 10 miles N. of Dortmund. Identity of crew established from a photo. of Pilot Officer C.N. Burst’s disc found on a German document.
2 a.m. 19/6/40 flying towards Dortmund – Mengeder. Caught in searchlights & hit by fire from anti-aircraft at Levringhausen, wh. Is 10 miles N. of Waltrop. Turned over & crashed in fields of a factory at Levringhausen & completely destroyed.
Graves marked by cross in April 1945 by British Army but the graves are to be concentrated in Service Cemeteries, photo. will be taken & sent on

The names of the members of the crew of the Whitley aircraft who were flying with your son on the 18th June 1940, & who are buried with him are:-
Flying Officer J.T. MacInnes
Pilot Officer C.N. Burst
Sergeant L. Whittle
Sergeant C.F. McKay
