Heres [sic] wishing you many Happy Returns of the Day, & hoping you have a very good birthday. I am very sorry I cannot do the usual on such an occasion but under these circumstances, I am afraid I shall have to promise to do my best after the war, or shall I be an optimist & say next year, so here again I wish you all the best & cherio. [sic]
