Dear Mrs. Shaw,
I am very sorry to refer again to the loss of your husband, Flight Sergeant S. Shaw, but it is necessary for me to inform you that the Royal Air Force Missing Research Organisation has now reported that the area of the Kolpin See has been visited on numerous occasions for the purpose of locating the graves of your husband and his crew companions, but without success.
I am sure you would wish to know of a decision which has been reached with the Imperial War Graves Commission that, in all cases of this kind, commemoration shall be made on the Royal Air Force Memorial to the Missing, which is to be erected on the banks of the Thames at Runnymede, in honour of those airmen who have no known graves.
I do hope it will comfort you to know that your husband’s name will rank in such very gallant company on this memorial.
Yours sincerely,
