Description

Alf Dawson was a Wireless Operator and flew an operational tour with No 630 Squadron at East Kirkby flying in the Lancaster. Post tour he flew with No 16 and 84 O.T.U. Post war he served in Ceylon. First flight in the Log Book was 14 April 1943 at No 4 Radio School RAF Madely. By 16 June he was at No 8 A.G.S. at RAF Evanton, by the 12 August 1943 Alf was at No 2 (O)AFU and 20 Sept at 28 OTU RAF Wymswold. By 8 January 1944 he was at No 1661 C.U. RAF Winthorpe and by 23 March was at No 5 L.F.S. RAF Syerston. By 4 April 1944 he was with No 630 Squadron at RAF East Kirkby. He flew his first operation on the 18 April and his last on 10 August 1944. He was a staff member at 16 O.T.U. RAF Upper Heyford from 23 September 1944 and 84 O.T.U. RAF Desborough from 19 January 1945. The last flight recorded in the Log book was on 22 May 1945. He flew operations to Juvisy, La Chapelle, Brunswick, Munich, Schweinfurt, Annecy, Bourge Leopold, Amiens, Kiel Bay (Mining), Brunswick, Antwerp, Saint-Valery-en-Caux, Saumur, La Pernelle, Balleroy, Etampes, Wesseling, Pommeréval, Marquise, Mimoyecques, Maisy, Calmont, Chalindrey, Nevers, Caen, Creil, Courtrai, Kiel Fjord, Donges, Stuttgart, Cahagnes, Joigny, Throisy, Trossy St. Maximin, Saint-Leu-d'Esserent, Châtellerault, Bordeaux. He flew in the following aircraft: Dominie, Proctor, Botha, Anson, Wellington, Stirling and Lancaster. His pilot on operations was Flight Lieutenant Hawker.
