Title

Letter to Morris Smith from Donald Brown

Description

Envelope post marked Newark, 3.30 18 Jan 1943. Letter headed Sergeant's Mess, Syerston, Monday. He comments that he thought of his father on Saturday night, but reckoned that he would not have been in the 'George and Dragon'. Asked if Morris had heard Richard Dimbleby on the wireless as he had flown on an operation on a squadron aircraft and said that he had never been as sick as he had over the target that night. Donald says that they should have flown the night before but had engine trouble.

Monday.

Dear Morris,

I have a few minutes to myself this morning for a change so I thought I would try and make the most of it. I thought of Father on Saturday night but I bet my last penny he wasnt [sic] in the ‘George & Dragon’. Still I would rather have been there than where I was at that time. Did you hear Richard Dimbleby on the news

this morning. He went in one of the kites from this station. We were talking to him after we got back & he said he has never been as sick in his life before as what he was over the target. We were detailed to go again last night but couldnt [sic] get off the deck due to engine trouble. Well I dont [sic] think there is much more to say so cheerio, All the best,
