The envelope has the address of Mrs Morris Smith, it was postmarked Newark, 3.30 25th Jan 1943. The letter is to his parents, from Syerston, Saturday. He says thank you for the letter but hadn't received the parcel. Comments that he wasn't on the operation on Monday, but he was over Germany early Friday morning, crossing the coast as dawn broke. Hopes to get his photographs developed, He is pleased that the invalids are getting on O.K. and wishes Gerald a happy birthday.

Thanks for your letter. I havent [sic] received the parcel but I suppose it will be in today’s post. We were not on the raid on Monday but we were over Germany early yesterday morning. We got back to the English coast just as dawn was breaking. I dont [sic] think I have ever seen a more welcome sight. I will get my photo

done as soon as I can but we very rarely get any afternoons off to get into town before the shops shut. Anyrate I will try and I’ve got a new issue of blue so I’m all ready. I am glad all the invalids are getting on O.K. Wish Gerald many happy returns for me please. Tell him I am sorry I cannot get out to get him a card. Well I will say cheerio.
