Dear Sirs,
I was shot down last month & baled out at about 400 feet & landed safely in some trees, the rest of my companions were killed. I was using one of your shutes [sic] so I believe I am eligible for membership of the Caterpillar Club, My home address is:- 7 Parrock Avenue, Gravesend Kent.

I thank you for your letter of 13th Aug with enclosed caterpillar pin for my son Sgt. D.W. Waters.
I am pleased to accept and keep the pin on my son’s behalf until he returns home which I hope will not be too long.
My son was shot down by German night fighters over Holland on the night of March 13th-14th 1941.
