31 Jan 1944: Hello Everyone.
Just a line to say that I'm fine and well. I am moving soon to another station up North of here1.
My new address will be #82 OTU RCAF, RAF, Ossington2.
Hope you are all well in good health. This will be a long time reaching you but I'm out of airmail. They ration them to 5 a month. So I'll have to stop writing so often.
Haven’t had any mail for the last couple of days and no parcels as yet. Write when you have time.
Love Glenn
1 Bomber Command was centred in Central England: Lincolnshire and Yorkshire. This left the bases in southern England to Fighter Command, closest to France and German bomber stations for their attacks on London and targets in southern England. Bomber Command bases were therefore somewhat safe guarded both by distance and by fighter command.
2 RAF Ossington was in eastern Nottinghamshire, west of Lincoln. #82 OTU was an Operational Training Unit for night bombing using Wellingtons. The base was opened in June 1943. This is the only air station he mentions by name.
