[underlined]POEM – “I ABANDON NOW [/underlined]
I abandon now my sight
And blur in melting eyes
The grim woods
And the words of winter
The creaking stubble
Mottled with black-veined stones
To freeze my hand.
I close my senses to
The thrust and surge
Of throatward blood
Nor move to tissues’ impulse
And the bleak hill
Is silence.
But I am waiting
Beyond the bound of fear
And calm
Past all my crying:
I do not tremble though
The cold steals to numb
This body
To ultimate subjection
Resigned in the dispassionate veil
Of winter’s unreasoned
Despair.
