POEM FROM A DARKNESS
Your lash of words
I will remember
Driven as thorns
Into the writing hand
And curve of shoulder
The livid mood
Spat whipshod
From your tongues
Blister frail sheen
Distort
Remembrance of
A girl’s gentleness
I strange among you
Subject of
A filthy song.
The vision broken
Of a lover
Was exacted payment
The ripped toll
Surly the deed of
No God I know.
I will remember
My hands
Writhing in
My aching hair
And after madness
The cloak of crying
Folded
In pregnant quiet
Heralds escape
From the nailing down
Of heart
Sink to a darkness
Yet to a light in brain
I drown in sleep
From which I ask
No waking.
