R.A.F. PARTY IN NORWICH
Officers and men of a flight of the Royal Air Force stationed at a Norfolk aerodrome came to Norwich in two motor coaches on Boxing Night for a Christmas party. Their rendezvous was the Festival House, where they had a dinner and a concert. With the co-operation of the airmen who planned the outing, Mr. E. Guest was able to provide all the ingredients of a very good time. For the concert Mr. Walter Day was compere, and the artists included Mr. Robert Laws, Miss May Palmer, Mr. S. Pointer, Corporal Baltitude, Mr. George Taney, Mr. Billy Barton, Mr. A. J. Spencer, and Mr. Jock Arnott. For several weeks the airmen had been preparing for the party by allocating part of their pay to a combined “stocking,” and it was generally agreed this effort and the long journey they had to make to and from the city were well worth while. Some Norwich people who were invited to join the festivities were so impressed by the happy feeling existing between officers and men that they are planning to make them the guests of a Norwich association at a similar party in the near future. Autographs were freely exchanged on the menu cards which bore the R.A.F. crest, particulars of the squadron and the words, “First war Christmas, 1939.” It was indeed a Christmas to be remembered.
