Description
Observer’s and air gunner’s flying log book for Robert F Huntley, navigator, covering the period from 22 March 1939 to 19 July 1943. Detailing his flying training, operations flown, instructor duties and special operations with 109 Squadron testing the new Oboe system. He was stationed at RAF Prestwick, RAF North Coates, RAF Honington, RAF East Wretham, RAF Silloth, RAF Boscombe Down, RAF Kabrit, RAF Idku, RAF Shallufa, RAF North Luffenham, RAF Cranage, RAF Bitteswell and RAF Brighton. Aircraft flown in were Anson, Wallace, DH86, Wellington, Whitley, Harrow, Tutor and Lysander. He flew a total of 42 operations. 30 with 9 Squadron, 11 with 109 Squadron and 1 with 29 Operational Training Unit. Targets were River Weser, Sylt, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Paris, Cabourg, Gibraltar, Malta, Kabrit, Sollum, Ridotta Capuzzo, Tobruk, Cairo and Vichy. Many of the operations with 9 Squadron are not detailed, as are those with 109 Squadron but their duty was the jamming of German communications. His pilots on operations were Flying officer K Green, Pilot Officer Hillier, Flight Lieutenant Willis DFC, Flight Sergeant Gent, Flying officer Cundall, Sergeant Dixon, Sergeant Newton and Wing Commander Parselle.
