16 January, 1948.
Dear Mrs. Wynn,
It is not without hesitation that I refer again to the death in action of your husband, but I know you will wish to be informed of a report concerning his reburial which we received recently from the Army Graves Service in Belgium.
It has been found necessary to vacate the cemetery at Venlo and all the graves have now be transferred to the British Military Cemetery at Jonkersbosch, a suburb of Nijmegen. It is regretted that no prior notice of the transfer could be given but I feel sure you will appreciate the advantages of the reburial policy. Where adequate arrangements cannot be made for the permanent upkeep of graves, the Army authorities arrange for reburial in special Service cemeteries where facilities are available for their proper care in perpetuity by the Imperial War Graves Commission. Your husband’s remains, together with those of Squadron Leader Turgel, Flying Officers Harvey and Marnoch and Sergeant Hudson, have accordingly been laid to rest in graves 8 and 9 of row C, plot XXIV.
The new graves have been registered in their names and when the time comes to replace the existing temporary crosses by permanent headstones, you will of course be consulted by the Secretary of the Commission regarding the wording of the inscription.
I do hope this somewhat belated information will be of comfort to you.
Yours Sincerely,
